I couldn't get further into this book than about 75 pages. It was very tragic right off the bat, and the tragedy just festered and soaked into everything. Young children will appreciate seeing these animals performing the tasks that parents and other caregivers normally do: making breakfast, bringing him to school and home again, drawing a bath. This was a nice one-time check-out from the library for preschoolers through early-elementary-aged children.

Saylor brings in the big guns w/Ptolemy, Cleopatra and Julius Caesar and makes a good show of it. Saylor handles Gordianus personal problems well while not sacrificing plot speed, but the ending was really unbelievable...but there's one book to go so I'll w/hold criticism.

I went to hear Jeff Chang and Toure speak at Housing Works Used Book Cafe, way back when Can't Stop Won't Stop came out. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy, sort of unassuming. Not that this is relevant, necessarily. Plenty of great books written by assholes.
