Great imaginative storytelling. This book starts with the extinction of the human race, goes on to explore teenage angst, includes an alien invasion, and even touches on the topic of religious fanaticism. You may think these elements don't fit into a single novel but in this case they do. You'll just have to read the book to find out how. I don't want to say anything more since I don't want to give away the story line. I will say that the book is engaging and unpredictable. John Corwin is an incredibly imaginative story teller, kind of like a young Stephen King or Orson Scott Card. The creatures John Corwin creates are unique but so vividly described that you can easily picture them in your mind. John Corwin is an up and coming author who should be read by anyone who is a fan of the sci-fi/fantasy genre. I'm hooked and am glad to have discovered this author at the start of his published career.

The only reason I didn't rate this book higher was I felt style trumped substance; I could almost feel the author straining to use the language of Jane Eyre, (one of my favorite books that is referred to over and over in this book) and others of that ilk and era. However, having said that, it's a real page-turner and I did enjoy reading it!
The hobbit is an adventerous tale of fantasy based on the creations of J.R.R. Tolken. These events take place before the main trilogy, the Lord of the Rings. The Protaginast or Main Characters of the story are Gandalf the grey and Biblo Baggins. They set off in a journey to slay the mighty Smaug (A dragon) and to save Lonely Mountain with the help of thirteen drawves.
also very different from her later work, but interesting. It's essentially a spoof of the gothic novels that were so popular at the time.
