It is hard to rate a book like this, because it isn't meant to entertain. It does much more than that. It is unsettling and poignant; written simply, but powerfully. It looks and feels like a child's book, but it isn't. Though told gently enough that a child could read it, he/she wouldn't fully understand what was going on any more than Bruno, or even Shmuel, did. Unless, of course, the reader was well aquainted with the events of the holocaust, as an adult would be. It made me sad, but I'm glad I read it.

Did you know that poor people might possibly be poor because America doesn't look after those on the bottom rung fairly well? If this isn't news to you, you don't need to read it....if poor people are that way due to laziness, then you should read this to expand your mind.
what can this guy write, not much happens, but every spare moment I had ( I was on a Caribbean Cruise, with a lot of distraction) I grabbed for this book. Every sentence said something. Although it's a portrayal of an American life it is universal. On to part 2 ( 3 i already read)

second book in the homecoming saga, again, it was just okay. it really did very little to move the plot of the story along though. it felt like a filler book, a book that could have really been written in maybe a couple chapters of another book. that is to say, it didn't seem to drag on. orson scott card has a talent for never making a book feel like that. still, by the end, i said to myself: what was the point of that book?
I really like this cozy series set in a tea shop. This one over-explained everything a little. It has been a while since I read the others, but I don't remember them doing that. Still a good cozy, just nit as good as the others :)

Ooh.. Information on the Tudors era! How exciting! *not being sarcastic here* The whole story about Tilly and all was okay (they didn't tell us what happened to Tom!) and a bit.. I don't know.. It didn't resolve the story much (didn't tell us what was in the stinkin' letter that Tilly held for five freakin' years). But if you didn't understand much about England in the 16th century part of history, this book clears up a mighty proportion of it. But this book more focusses on the heir to the throne after King Henry VII died and it gives you a brief insight of the Tower when Kind Edward VI (Henry's son) died of an illness. From then and on, it tells a story of the fight for the throne and the fight of religion (Catholics and Protestants) between Lady Jane Grey, Princess Mary (Henry's first child from his first wife, Catherine of Aragon) and Princess Elizabeth (Henry's second child from his second wife, Anne Boleyn). Oh, and King Henry VII had SIX WIVES. First one was divorced, second one beheaded (accused of cheating on the king), third one died during childbirth, fourth one annulled, fifth one beheaded (accused of treason) and his sixth wife outlived him. Insert WTF?! moment here. Phew. That was a big burst of information there. And to be honest, I'm just fascinated in all this because I saw a brilliant fan video about Anne Boleyn from the TV show The Tudors. See! Watching videos do make you smarter =D (or at least, they make you research things that DO make you smarter!)

The book was turned into a Lifetime Original movie. (Obviously). I've never read it nor have I seen the movie. The title did inspire me, however, to wear red lipstick to my molesectomy I will be having this afternoon. In this way, I will be symbolically reclaiming my womanhood even after my mole is gone. On that note, lets share these words of Pink and India Arie: "I am not my hair I am not this skin I am not your expectations no no I am not my hair I am not this skin I am a soul that lives within" Am I right ladies? Woo. I am not my mole, a whoa, a whoa, a whoa!! Alls I gotta say is thank-you jesus that it's just a mole and not my boobs because we all know my boobs do define me.
It was a nice read and I liked the character of Connor Grey. For me the problems between the faeries and the elves didn't come across very interesting.

If I could have given this book 10 stars, I would have!! I think one of the reasons is that it includes all of my favorite things...History, Politics, and Alaska!! Great story about yet another group of Native people who were taken advantage of and a group that was almost wiped out culturally. Well written and very informative. :-)
