Extremely fun book, but slightly predictable at the end.

I read The Paris Wife by Paula McLain while on my trip to and Indianapolis this weekend. It's a quiet story about a marriage and though it's not overly dramatic it was full of nuance and tension. I really enjoyed this book about the story of Ernest Hemingway and his first wife. He wrote The Sun Also Rises while they were married. And, though, I would not count myself as a Hemingway fan, I am interested to read that book now because he supposedly took the story right from their life.

This book was phenomenal--I can't wait to start recommending it to everyone I know. The narrator reminded me strongly of the narrator of Patrick McGrath's Asylum (which is high praise). In tone, it reminded me of Daphne Du Maurier and Shirley Jackson. I read it as a straight up ghost story, but the other possible interpretations are intriguing, too (especially the unreliable narrator theory).

Lu Hsun's short stories were bearable. . . that's the only good thing I can say.

no, u da ho!
This play brings back junior year of high school, our teacher's tailored dresses and awkward caressing of Marlon Brando on the front cover of the book. So. Much. Love. I picked a monologue from the play for the end-of-semester project. I am no actress, but Blanche or Stella would make for the portrayal of a lifetime.

This is my second book by Agatha Christie and I'm now afraid nothing will compare to And Then There Were None. I don't think I'm a big fan of Hastings' narrative, nor Poirot's character for that matter. But then again this was my introduction to Hercule Poirot so maybe he'll grow on me. Next up, the Murder of Roger Ackroyd.
I really liked this book, I am not to sure if it was the likability of the characters or if it was the way the book was written but the portrait of Henry the Eighth was very good and it was nice to see a different side of him.
it was ahhhright. :)
Such a complex story. I got utterly lost when I tried reading this as a kid but as an adult it was fascinating and I had a much better grasp of the politics driving everything. I feel like the flow of the story was a little strange and that it sped up as it continued, skimming over a lot of things I'd be interested to know more about. I was particularly interested in the Bene Gesserit and the Fremen society. Also all the revelations about the desert ecosystem. I'm still blown away by the complexity of this world the author created.
