Though I really enjoyed the first few issues in this volume of Sandman tales, the latter half seemed to drag on and on. I don't think that I enjoy the Shakespeare storyline as much as other readers have, unfortunately.

Finally finished this one and it got better toward the end. My only problem with this series is the names and how complicated the "mating" system is. The combination makes it hard to tell what's going on sometimes. Other than that some very cool unique situations. Butler had a way of portraying fantastic situations (like crazy looking aliens) as if they were mundane. It doesn't feel like your reading fantasy/sci-fi but instead another reality.

A subtle novel - very funny, sometimes depressing but ultimately life-affirming. One US critic said it might even be a great modern American novel. I'm inclined to agree. The first 20 pages may take some adjusting to - the style initially seems flippant. But keep going and you'll discover a fascinating read. It may seem to be about advertising but it is actually a much bigger comment on modern life. A great read.
I really enjoyed the book. The events that happened are events that can happen to anyone.

Published in 1992, this book suffers from the "this book is for young adults so it must be short" mentality that existed back then. And therefore, the characters are not as well developed as I would have liked. In her review for School Library Journal, Margaret Chang observed "While the writing is smooth and the story moves quickly, the girl's emotions are not convincingly portrayed. The story's tone wobbles, sometimes keeping a comic distance from tragic events. The abrupt ending may leave readers puzzled as to the heroine's motivations." I think that if this book had been written today, the author would have been able to flesh out the characters better and given the reader much more detailed descriptions. Let's hear it for J. K. Rowling -- young adult fiction will never be the same again.
I read Danielewski's House of Leaves a few years ago, this is what i remember: The first half of the book, was a tedious read, but amazing. The second half i blew through in a couple fear-filled nights. Contains many cryptic messages, if you have the desire to search for them, and can discuss them with many cult readers on Danielewski's webpage. You can ignore the cryptology and it is still an ingenious novel. Mysterious, creepy, down-right scary. Many parts of this book will never leave my brain. I get chills just thinking about it!

One of my all time favorite books. If you are questioning what love looks like this is the book for you.
