A movie based on this book and starring Jamie Lee Fox will be out next month, and I wanted to read the book prior to see the movie. How do you help someone with mental illness? How much do you give before you throw in the towel? Is it permissible to force them to take medicines and make them live where they don't want to? Showing much more patience than I ever could, the author shows us a slice of life beyond my imagination.

4.5 stars really. Although to be accurate, maybe 5.5 stars with some quibbles that bring it back down to just below 5. Don't even think of reading this until you've read "Ink & Steel" - the two form one story. Bring some knowledge on British history, Faerie, and Lucifer, and bring a large dose of flexibility about sexual preferences. This is a complex and fascinating story. I didn't really care for how some of the plot threads were resolved. Richard Baines, for one: big setup, weak resolution. A few of the characters were wooden - Ben Jonson made me think of Big Moose from the Archie Comics, before they got politically correct. But that's forgivable, and maybe even necessary when you have 20 other complex and interesting characters on stage. Sometimes literally. Anne Hathaway Shakespeare alone makes up for it; she's excellent. It's also good to read a story in which the heroes are not super-strong and super-smart, and sometimes do the wrong thing. Not quite unputdownable, but well into, "Geez, I should have stopped half an hour ago"

I suppose this would be called a contemporary m/m romance with a light BDSM theme. Adam is a stripper that meets Jimmy as a client at Jimmy's birthday party. From that night on it is a constant battle to stay true to each other (Adam is "out" while Jimmy wants a discreet romance). Adam is a struggling stripper while Jimmy is a rich businessman. I liked seeing the relationship between the characters and while I couldn't quite take to Adam pushing Jimmy away, it was apart of the story. This is the first time I read a m/m romance where the romance was very limited. You have to understand the character's issues and see how that either makes them grow, or makes them falls. I did like this being my first novel by Kimberly Gardner.

Pure, unadulterated pleasure! I cannot recommend this book highly enough, I giggled all the way through. These are a couple of talented gentlemen whose worlds I often find myself entranced by...Such a heartbreaking loss to know that we may loose Pratchett's talent wit and spirit soon!

It's all based on a true location, type of social services given to orphans and essentially run through the auspices of the state. There was a board of directors which were in charge of the legal upkeep and raising of the children. But this one had a phenomenal musical education available to those who showed the talent and aptitude. And this book is written to show the events as through the eyes of three young wards of the orphanage. It was really fascinating to be reacquainted with the youngsters; there are some things that are just characteristic to kids in growing up. Going through being children and then becoming part of the adult world. Vivaldi was the key in this program, and that is true. And he loved the kids and went through all kinds of hell and high water to try to make it the best for them, but musical was the key here, and the children wanted and needed more than that than that in their lives. They also needed to meet life, beyond the ideals. But it's a great book, I think and very worth reading.

I liked this better than the first one, despite the fact it took me several days to read this. I kept picking it up and then found I really wasn't in the mood for it. I am intrigued about Sebastian and wondering where the next book is going to take this plot.

I enjoyed the story -- all genealogists feel like detectives. But usually family secrets from the past have no repercussions in the present. And the dead bodies stay buried. It was a little funny that the book started out with Nick Herald wondering if he had wasted money on the ad that he had placed in the yellow pages. There were better places for him to advertise and, even back in the dark ages of 2001, genealogists advertised on the Internet. It is also rare for any genealogist to be dazzled by being offered a huge advance.

Coming of age story set in the magical land of Kalamazoo.
I remember hearing about this book when I started delving heavily in to Beat writings, and Joyce and this book kept coming up on the lips of writers I greatly respected. When i finally got down to reading it, I discovered that yes, it was good, but man was it hard to get through. A stream of consciousness look at a day in the lives of Dubliners the book is a massive achievement of words, although I personally found it to swing from incredibly deep to incredibly boring without any provocation or warning.
