Barbara Kingsolver is very good at exploring her protagonist's inner world and in this book she has four that each has their own story and relationships. Each explores their relationship with their neighbours and their environment. Kingsolver has a magical handle on nature, from Luna moths to predators to farmers who need to make a living. I recently re-read this book and enjoyed it as much, if not more, the second time around.

Rob made some good points early on in the book that I agree with such as the bible was written a long time ago by people and has to be taken in the context of when it was written. There is no such thing as taking the bible literally you have to interpret it. This explains why there are so many different denominations of Christianity. Christians need to show they are following Christ by there actions and not have an agenda of trying to convert people.

A friend recommended this book to me last summer and I just finished it. Wow! The writings are of the author was what I needed to take in and digest ever so intentionally. Although I have been a Christian for awhile, it was so helpful as well as important to get back to basics. The author's approach to breaking down how to be Mary in a Martha's world was spot on. Her writing really ministered--who is so much a Martha type wanting to be Mary. How wonderful that in Christ we can have a balance in both. I really enjoyed it as well and would recommend it.

I have to admit I am not particularly fond of this children's rhyme because its repeating line "Perhaps she'll die". So I only gave it three stars. But the illustrations are cute. And of course afterwards, my son asked me if we'd die if we ate a horse, and I had to tell him, well, it wouldn't be good for you to eat a whole horse, but the book was just joking.
