Well I really liked this book, I read it in 2 days. It is a little high school right now but I like the characters a lot. It was kind of confusing with all the dif. kinds of vampires but I like the friendship between Rose and Lissa. So we will see how this series goes.

This book is hilarious. I love it. In addition, it is educational since a lot of it is focused on the colonization of Tasmania and the genocide of the aborigines there. How is a book on that subject amusing? Well the other half of the story is a bunch of English passengers (hence the book's title) en route to Tasmania. Their antics and the Manx seamen provide the humor. The historical novel is a great blend of a serious subject matter with humor.

Poul Anderson's wife is releasing some of his early works for Kindle. http://www.amazon.com/Call-Me-Joe-ebo... Call me Joe is the first. It is a short story published in the late 1950's in one of the popular science fiction magazines of the time, where I first read it (I think it was Astounding, but I'm not sure). The basic premise is a scientific mission to Jupiter creates a life form that can survive on the Jovian "surface", remote controlled from a moon station. The controlling scientist is a handicapped man who feels the power of the whole, vibrant creature that he controls. Is this beginning to sound familiar? Did James Cameron read this story and let it percolate for 60 years? As always, Poul Anderson's prose is a joy to read, and the ending, while not a complete surprise, is very satisfying. Read it to see where "Avatar" came from. And for the pleasure of tasting the Master's work.

Its kind of boring because what it does to turn Katie back is the magic wind which is kind of weird and boring
I remembered I liked this one a lot, but maybe it was just relief after the disappointing "scarecrow"

3.5/5 Personally I think it's not N.K. Jemisin's best book so far. The fault lies purely with Sieh - the child-god and main character of the book. He is too volatile and too much of a child to interest me enough to care. I did not care and I got pretty bored with this book despite some good parts here and there.

i just read this book and it is absolutely incredble--one of the best books i have ever read. the fact that the author is such a fantastic storyteller makes the book accessible to anyone really, even those who have little patience for long novels. the unrequited love in this story is fabulously told and the character of phillip carey is at once pathetic and tender. it isn't quite as philosophical as i'd like it to be but thats because it is mostly a story with interludes of philosophy and reflection. the book is really about the characters and the story they build--and what a story it is. i particularly recommend this book to my dear brother, matt, who i think would enjoy it immensely.
