Because of this, my birthday blues came early, so technically they would be Christmas blues, my first ever. So don’t read it if you’re on the verge of loneliness. It has that melancholy feel to it, I heard that all of his books are like that. Maybe I should hold off reading any Murakami until after January 21, which is quite a shame since I have six books of his that are just waiting to be devoured. I gave it four stars because even it's so beautifully written, Toru’s character didn’t seem to grow, he just kept letting things happen to him, and even after everything that was said and done, he still had the same way of thinking, he was still the same person. And I found his exceptionally patient and understanding character annoying. I prefer Nagasawa’s character, but truthfully speaking that would just be an asian Tyler Durden. I also can’t figure out what the 37 year old Toru had to do with the story except for memorable quotes on memories. I didn’t really care for the actual story, but the beautiful details of the characters’ point of view left a lasting impression

Anyone who hate scary things, Blood-bath fighting and anything that is gruesome to the point that you want to puke, steer clear from this book. But, for me, it was a blast!! Big applause for you, Master Shan.
My second dystopian novel, and still my favorite. This is the book that introduced me Ray Bradbury, so I am indebted to it.

the best of the 3...review to come.
I read this book in 11th grade for school. Now normally, school kills our enjoyment of novels because they force us to read something that we might not like. But I went into this novel with an open mind, and I was blown away. Everything about this novel is great. While the central plot is a bit lacking, the relationships between the main character Gatsby and Tom Buchanan, and the woman they both love, Daisy, is what really sets this work apart from the rest. The setting is Twin Eggs, a nice neighborhood in Long Island, as well as new York City, during the 1920s. Nick Carraway, the narrator and the character we see the story through, has moved to New York from the west to try and make his way as a bond salesmen. It's there that he meets up with Tom Buchanan, a chum from college, as well as Tom's wife, Daisy, who also happens to be Nick's cousin. The whole town is all aflutter over the mysterious Gatsby's parties, which he throws often. When Nick gets invited to one of these parties, me meets the man himself, and they become fast friends. Without giving away too much, what follows is a story of love and lust and alcohol. Each character in this story is more than what they seem. Gatsby in particular has an amazing backstory that makes him even more mysterious. But like many legendary figures, he has a humble beginning, and it is hinted that all the wealth he has collected could possibly have been ill-gotten. And it is also evident that he doesn't care about his fortune. All of the things he has are used to help him try to get back the one thing he has ever cared about, and he will stop at nothing to get it back. The novel does a great job of exposing the hypocrisy and extravagances of the 20s, and critiques them severely. In a way, this novel is semi-autobiographical. F. Scott Fitzgerald's life was wild and chaotic, much like Gatsby's. Anyway, since I haven't read any of his other novels, I can't speak for the prose of the others. But this one has amazing details and characterizations. You can really FEEL the heat of the hottest day oof the summer, during which the climax happens. As stated earlier, the characters are memorable, and even if you forget their names, you'll have a hard time forgetting what they did. Also, if you know anything about the 1920s or Prohibition before going into this, you'll appreciate what happens a lot more. So it might be a good idea to do a quick Google search about the period before you go buy it. Overall, I had a great time with this book. If you haven't read it yet, do so. It's not very long, and a good hardback copy will run you about 5 bucks. I spent about 5 bucks at McDonald's the other day. I can tell you, I'd much rather have bought another copy of this amazing book. This was also my first review, so I hope you guys liked it. This is a classic that earns its name as such. 5 stars!

I couldn't get through this book because I was expecting the same fabulous plot and writing as Uglies. I was disappointed becuase the plot just didn't entertain me.
The "pretty talk" makes me want to poke my eyes out. The portion in the middle on the reservation seemed sudden and out of place. Other than that, I'm still intrigued by the premise and interested in the story.

I really enjoyed this book! I'm definitely curious to see where it goes. It stopped at an odd place. I know a series is supposed to have cliffhangers, but this book had a weird spot. It almost feels like it just got cut off mid sentence. I look forward to book 2!

I enjoyed this book but didn't love it as much as I know many people did. I wasn't happy with the end - once it veered into the whole weird, secret society of people trying to teach dogs to talk it kind of lost me. It was a good read though and a very interesting premise.
