Very good book. Help identify negative thought processes, and what to do to change them. You can change your mind, it just takes practice.

This is one of the books Donald Maass uses as an example in his *The Fire in Fiction*. In 2010, I made a new year's resolution to read all of them. That was before I realized how many there were! So, it has become my on-going project! Review: Powerful book, unusual style. I recommend it for authors who want to improve their craft. Read it, study it. See how a master works the "show, don't tell" rule.

Maybe if I had been a die-hard fan of the show "Sex in the City" I would have liked this book more. I think my library did me a injustice by shelfing it in the regular fiction section instead of the young adult section. I was expecting it to be a little more juice then it was.

Good- I read it quickly, but I guess maybe I am getting a little tired of the human/vampire/werewolf love triangle. I will read the next book, but I guess sequels never seem to be as good as the first in a series. I do understand the fascination and popularity of these books though! I just don't want Bella to become a vampire though - as a mother, the thought of Bella choosing her boyfriend to spend eternity with and leaving her family behind with little explanation breaks my heart. I guess I will see how this pans out in book 4.
This book was really good
And yes I read this in French! But then I read the English version- much easier - but a great book.

While I didn't love it as a piece of literature, I thoroughly appreciated this book as a piece of art. Kerouac writes with a madness that leaves an indelible impression of the "beat" lifestyle; foggy memories, awkward relationships, the feeling that to slow down is akin to death. Still, I expected more; I found a haphazard collection of anecdotes in which characters fail to develop and goals languish. Kerouac makes some keen observations about various aspects of Americana, but never about himself or Dean, who are, arguably, the two most fascinating fixtures in "On the Road." Nonetheless, this was a breathless, whirlwind journey across America with some lively hooligans that I probably wouldn't mind consorting with....once a year.

An copy that came my way via librarything in March. MARCH! And here it is June and I still haven't been able to finish the darn thing. I picked it up with great anticipation. After all Kathleen Turner is one of my favorite actresses. She has yet to disappoint, whether it's been in film or in interview. And while I could hear her distinctive voice behind the words very definitely in the beginning of the book, it just didn't sustain my interest. It was a struggle to get through her life up to maybe 1991 (after Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile.) But even for beautiful Kathleen, I don't think I can keep reading this. It's too much of a struggle. Yes she's "astonishingly candid" but I am not sure that I care that much. It was all kind of "vanilla" for me. For a woman capable of such passion on the screen and stage, it doesn't translate well into writing, or at least not for me. On the other hand, the gossipy bits about her co-stars was kinda fun. It's no surprise that she enjoyed her time and got on well with Michael Douglas and Danny de Vito. And Jack Nicholson, too. Her not so favorable reaction to Burt Reynolds surprised me, I kinda felt redeemed with her also negative reaction to Nicolas Cage. I absolutely despised him in Peggy Sue Got Married, so much so that I wouldn't see films with him in them. But apparently, he had a huge chip on this shoulder then, and a major bad boy attitude. He seems to have left that behind and let his true skill come out. And it made him a better actor (and one I no longer avoid.) So all in all, I'm kinda disappointed in Kathleen the author, but hey-- she's got beauty, brains and oodles of acting talent. She can leave writing for others to find their star.
