Liked it initially, but had a hard time getting to the end when the due date came up.
Loved it although, I did think Bella was a bit too weak at times.

Pretty good. Not my kind of book, but I can see why many people are big fans of Le Carre.

Eleanor Collins is in London to chaperon her younger sister. Sebastien Dodd, Viscount Benton goal is to avenge his mother's death. He believes this until he kisses Eleanor and "finds his mind, and his body, utterly consumed."
A great story teller weaves a marvelous narrative tale. Really enjoyed this one.

One of my all-time favorite books. Don't judge a book by its category--this is not another historical romance. (Though it is replete with romance, and historical detail, and maddeningly handsome men with thick Scots accents). I love it because the main character is a sharp-tongued broad who doesn't give in. And she gets smarter and more interesting with each book--and the love affair deepens and grows as the characters mature, which we so rarely get to see.
My Vonnegut curiousity aroused, I headed for this next. I was not disappointed - this, again, is great stuff. I love the crossover of characters in Vonnegut's oeuvre - Campbell's presence in Slaughterhouse 5 brought me to this, as Kilgore Trout's would take me to Breakfast of Champions. I love this idea of a little world in the author's head, where the characters aren't actors, they're real people. And they go on living, and they interact with each other. Anyway, this is very dark, but very amusing. It raises some very interesting questions, about good and evil, and about who you pretend to be. As with Slaugtherhouse 5 I particularly like the way that the protoganist is dragged along by events (indeed it's that awful inevitability that things will go wrong that makes this story so amusing), and never seems able to shape them.
There's a good magazine article or two in here about the rise of the left tackle in football (and, indeed, I bought the book after reading an excerpt in SI), but it's really a sociology book that uses Michael Oher as a jumping-off point. My one problem with the book is that the tone isn't journalistic and detached. The author isn't reporting events (which was one of the allures of Moneyball); he adds his own value judgments and editorial opinions, which the reader then needs to work to strip away to assess what really happened. Of course, we find out at least part of the reason in the Author's Note - he went to school with Sean Tuohy from kindergarten through high school.

It's a great concept. I mean, it has to be because ever since it was written the territory has been well worn. However, that is also it's downfall. I'm so sick of this stupid story. It gets 3 stars because I know it's good, but I didn't enjoy it because I've heard it too many times in so many other contexts.

What a good read! I loved the growth in the characters.
