I got some really good ideas from the book but it seemed like they were trying to stretch the subject to make the '100 ways'

Fun, light reading. I imagine this will be a film someday. It is in the vein of the Dan Brown books--moves fast, mysterious, etc. A historian investigating the real Dracula learns much more than he expects. Kostova also incorporates a sprinkling of Turkish history and culture that I found very interesting.

I had to give a presentation on this book in my "Travel Writing" class during my Sophomore year of college. The experience of reading the book had been so conflicted--Is sex fulfillling, or just the purest expression of how empty human life is? Does Houellebecq hate everyone or just Muslims?--that it probably wasn't my finest collegiate moment. It did, however, allow me to use the word 'sodomy' in an academic context and get into a near shouting match with a woman who I would one day come to recognize as my doppleganger. Long story short, Houellebecq is probably the most accomplished misanthrope living, but he has the cutest dog ev-er: [http://thelmagazine.com/4/13/listings...]

I was disappointed by this one. An Na is a very talented writer, but this story was just kind of blah. The tension between Mina and her mother was well done, however. The best part of the novel is that depiction of family tension, otherwise it was a very ordinary story.

Meh, I could have done without this one in the series. It did tie a few things into the series, but I really was hoping that what the Builders did would come out more.

This was a very original and interesting book, especially since we got to learn a bit more about Asperger Syndrome, and see how it was like from someone who has it. But somehow, I got a little bored towards the end. Or maybe it was the way everything was described, it tired me a little at some point.

Loved it! The romance, the broken society, the pace, the action... This book lived up to the hype I read about on my book blogs. The only problem being this: it is the first book in a trilogy and the other two have yet to be written. I can't wait to see what happens to Tris and the rest of the characters who are still alive. Here's the product description from Amazon (sums it up quite nicely-better than I could): In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.
Hated it!! I want my life back (at least the part devoted to reading this book)
