** spoiler alert ** Ah-mazing! Last book of the clique series. My most fave one. This is about how each of them has their own little secret they hide from the rest of the clique. Like Massie has to move to England, Claire gets a new house, Alicia got a fortune teller that said she would become the alpha, and Kristen gets accepted to soccer sis, and Dylan has her own tv show. Eventually everyone reveals their secret to the pretty committee. Massie tries to move to England after graduating, by sleeping over and people's places, but it doesn't work, she doesn't like anyone's house expect Claire's, and then Massie's parents don't want to leave her behind. Later on Massie's parents agree that she can stay at Claire's new house until grad, but then Massie chooses to move on because when the entire clique was at the fortune teller's place, she said that change is going to come to Massie, and she'll meet someone named James, and a lot of good things will happen. Then Massie chooses not to stay behind, and then decides to go to England, and the entire clique cries together, Massie reveals her insecurites, cries infront of the clicque, etc. Then she goes on the plane after saying bye to landon, and she meets someone named James, who goes to the same school as her, in on the plane to England. The End. AWWWESSOME BOOK!!!! but it's the end of the series.

I suspect Warren Zevon found himself a much more fascinating character than he appears to be in his journals and in the reminiscences of his friends. While Zevon did write some great songs including "Carmelita" and of course "Werewolves Of London" he was nevertheless an obsessive-compulsive narcissist who screwed over and abused nearly everyone who ever cared for him. Case in point: he rarely credited a good friend of his who co-wrote "Werewolves" with him. To a point, the book is an interesting-enough tale of crazy times and rock n' roll excess, but between his abusive alcoholism, his pervy sex addiction and his 'Monk'-like OCD, Warren becomes that initially interesting person you meet at a party who starts creeping you out and won't go away. That said, his story is an interesting evocation of several eras of LA musical lore. My favorite moment is an all-too-brief anecdote about walking into the bathroom of the Troubador to find John Belushi and Tom Waits clinched in angry wrestling match. To have seen that alone first-hand is to have lived an interesting life.

I wanted to read this book b4 the movie came out (which is the end of April). I knew i would love it and didn't want to stop reading it. The struggles, the progresses, the building of an unpredictable friendship,and the love of classical music made this book a favorite of mine. Written like you and I would write a book--and therefore an easy page turner! Enjoy!

Very cute. I read this with my children. My daughter didn't like the ending, but I thought it was wonderful. I can't say too much or I would ruin the story. However, I wish it had more cupcake recipes in it.

Stopped reading because the way the two detectives (Theo and Carlos) investigated the murders started to bug me too much. Sometimes it even felt like they were just going through the motions, playing at being detectives. The annoyance level overwhelmed the enjoyment I was getting from reading the book. I didn't rate because I only read 40% of it.

AMAZING. I bawled in the end. I, personally, loved this book. I thought the writing style was so meticulous and phenomenal, I could hardly believe it. The narrator. Who could be a better narrator of a story about the life of a little girl during the monstrous, horrifying things that happened during the Holocaust than Death himself? He provided a marvelous outlook on what happened in the life of dear Liesel Meminger... Liesel, a young girl removed from her incompetent mother to live with a couple willing to take in two children. The only problem is, Liesel's brother- the other child- died on the train on the way to the new family's house. Haunted by watching her little brother die, Liesel must face the life waiting for her on Himmel (German for heaven) St. Death follows Liesel's life and story as she grows up in the midst of the happenings of WWII. Her only solace in a world of terror is her new papa, Hans, and her new best friend, Rudy. Hans Hubermann seems like the greatest father in the world. Death describes him as Liesel sees him: always knowing the right things to say and do to make her feel better. He helps her through everything that is thrown her way, and I think she helps him as well. Then there's Rudy. Dear Rudy. Rudy, the young "lemon haired" boy who takes particular interest in Liesel from the start. Soon after meeting one another, Liesel and Rudy are best friends, and also partners in book thieving. Throughout the book, Rudy asks Liesel, "How about a kiss?" And every time, she refuses. Oh, how I cried in the end... But then there's Max. Max Vandenburg- a twenty year old Jew seeking asylum in the house of Hubermann. As Liesel slowly befriends this depleted man, she begins to realize the horrors that are happening in the world around her. I don't want to spoil the end, I'd just like you to read it for yourself. I'm afraid if I continue any more I'll end up just writing the whole book over again. I'd ever-so-highly recommend this book. To everyone. To anyone. To all those who want to read something. Actually, even to those who don't want to read, read this! It teaches you so much about the lives of those in the Holocaust. And not the usual depressing concentration camp stories. No, one, told from Death's perspective, about a girl living in Germany, under Hitler's rule, that sees things differently. I'm getting goosebumps, so you've gotta read it. I have only two questions: Who does Liesel marry? ( I ask this because, obviously, the book reveals no name, and *SPOILER* Rudy is not an option, and I was secretly hoping it was Max) What's with the cover? I don't get the dominoes...

See all those shiny stickers on the book's cover? Those are there for a reason. In a sort of biography of a marriage, this book explores the dynamics between Charles and Emma Darwin in a storyteller's voice. This is classified as a adolescent book because of its simplicity, but at no point is the narrative condescending. My understanding of Darwin as a person, father, and scientist positively exploded through this book, as well as my conceptualization of his society, as the author constantly made references to other bodies of literature and art. So, so good!
