In the wake of the Democrats' losses in the recent election, education policy is emerging as a potential issue on which President Obama can find common ground with Republicans. The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) was President Bush’s signature example of bipartisan compromise, and in his first two years of office President Obama has already embraced centrist to conservative ideas—such as merit pay for teachers and non-unionized charter schools—that will appeal to the new conservative majority in Congress. One wonders what Tom Waits actually did to the author after reading the poetry in this book. Although it may not have been intended, some of the poems come across as witty if taken alone away from the content of the book. When taken altogether, you get a picture of a great sadness and loss that never did get handled. It's a journey of persistence and determination with demands for love and admiration. Dreams dashed, life in turmoil but finding the strength to carry on. I really do wish I knew exactly what Tom Waits did - was he the cause of the authors struggles? It's a mystery, but obviously one that had a great impact on Susan Borgeson's life for 32 years.
Although rather confusing at times, trying to figure out the science fiction time travel portion of the book, I really enjoyed the adventure along the way. Well written and it held my interest throughout.

5 Stars Read~October 10, 2010 WHAT an amazing book about friendship! I was captivated bu the end of page 1 and stayed that way until the very end (with the exception of the "facts" the author felt was necessary to include about the benefits of friendship--that was boring and in my opinion, completely unnecessary!!). This is a great read and if you even have ONE friend that is closer-than-close to you (much less 11), you NEED to read this book. It will uplift you, challenge you in your friendship you have now and make you remember those from the past. FAB-UL-OUS read!!! GO BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!

I would probably rate this book 3 1/2 stars, as it is an improvement over other recent reads that had a 3 star rating. I enjoyed some of the character development of the many sisters and was grateful for the ABC naming so I could keep them straight(er).

I don't care what anyone says, it's still a great book.
I really enjoyed this when i was younger. Its a good quick read now!
Classic. Creepy how close Huxley was to hitting the mark.
"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." Michael Pollan is a genius. He makes you want to change the way you eat using common sense rather than shoving it down your throat and shaming you into it. The part I liked most about this book was Mr. Pollan's timeline of American diets and diet trends. It's amazing to me how quickly we jump onto bandwagons, one after another, that completely contradict one another.
