It sounds like a cliche, but this book truly is a page-turner. I couldn't put it down, and I recommend it to everyone I know.
This is a deep analysis of the theme of "creation" (as a verb) in the Old Testament. The book is a bit tainted with ideas from process theology, but it is overall an excellent, confessional, and comprehensive exploration of the Old Testament through the lens of God-as-creator.
We meet Elisa on the day of her wedding. Sixteen years old, and marrying a man she's never met. Marrying a king who will crown her Queen. Any girl would be terrified, but Elisa is no ordinary girl. chosen by God on the day of her birth to be the bearer of the Godstone, a stone in her navel filled with power and magic. Every bearer before her has been chosen to fulfill a task, and elisa is no different. Follow her on her incredible journey, to strange lands and even stranger people. To danger and death and beyond. But most of all, watch as Elisa makes her own journey, deep inside herself, to become the woman that she might have been all along. From cowardice to courage. From weak to strong. From theory to reality. Everything will change. You can expect several more books to come after this fantastic debut. And while the writing isn't anything to brag about, the mixture of fantasy and adventure, or religion and romance, makes for a lovely read. Reviewed by Kathryn Taylor
I picked this up on a sale shelf on a whim, and I'm glad I did...it was a fun, quick read especially for an Austen fan!

Still going and enjoying them.
Ok, I'm going to do a standard review for the rest of the Mrs. Murphy books I read, because I really can't think of something smart to say about every single one of them. Actually, it's hard to come up with something smart to say about any one of them, because they are not really smart books. Though, no, that's not true. They aren't trivial as such, they aren't too easy - or, in other words, they don't hurt my brain while I read them. But I think we can all agree that they are also not "great literature", and certainly not intellectually challenging, and as such, they are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. (that and the talking animals, of course) But they are pretty straight-forward crime stories, not overly complicated, but also never boring. They live from the interaction of the characters and the settings, both of which Brown handles brilliantly. That she also manages to make the reader fall in love with the characters, not only the familiar ones, but also the new ones she adds in each book, shows that a master she really is. And so I have no problem admitting that I have read and loved every single one of the Mrs. Murphy books, and I'm convinced that I'll continue to love them for as long as she continues to write them, which I hope will be until forever.

I've been meaning to read this book for awhile now, and I just heard about it again, so finally read it. I really enjoyed this book. I joined the Fairfax High School Science Fiction Club when I was a sophomore. I went to three different high schools, so joining this club (since the school lacked a mystery club) was a way for me to expand my knowledge of science fiction and meet new people. I'm still friends with many of the people I met there 30 years later. I love that! This group of friends introduced me to DnD which I loved and played too infrequently. We also saw movies together (including Rocky Horror), and listened to music, and had the greatest conversations. And that was what this book reminded me of. It is filled with 1980s pop culture references and filled with information about video games and fantasy games. It was really fun--and I'm glad I read it.

Oh! This book reminded me of what it is like to be an 11-year-old girl. Loved the voice in this book. So true to life. Really captured the feelings and struggles of a young girl wanting to be more independent, but still wanting to be safe and comforted. The first crush. The best friend who suddenly hates you. Realization that maybe, just maybe your mom doesn't actually have everything under control. Not understanding why everyone else can't see that you are in fact the center of the universe. I really enjoyed the historical setting of the early 1960's. I enjoyed all the details about the time period and what it was like to be a kid. I liked thinking that the main character was about the same age as my mom and how that helped me to understand her a little better. Also, I've heard a lot about the Cuban Missile crisis, and even knew some of the facts. But this helped me to understand it from a real person point of view. Very interesting. I loved how the story was sprinkled with photos, news clippings, propaganda, and other stuff to help give more context to the story. Great read. I really enjoyed it.
This book should be just as famous as Stephanie Meyer's other series, Twilight. This book shows our world's future when alein organisms take over. The aliens use the human bodies as their own (the humans are "hosts", hence the title.)There are few humans without aliens in them left. Melanie is one of those few. She is captured, and she becomes a host. With most cases, the human is completely gone and the alien controls the body. However, Melanie is still there inside her body, and the host, Wanderer, is disturbed when she discovers that her host is still there, talking to her, and wishing she was gone. Though at some times confusing, The Host is a wonderful book. One complaint that I have, on the other hand, is that Wanderer is just as whiny and needy as Bella is in Twilight.
One of my all-time favorite books!
