The more I read Koontz, the more I like him. This book isn't amazing, but it's better than the other bestselling authors I've read by a long shot.

I personally thought it was ok...but not my favorite. Sometimes there was too much description...and I found it not really boring, but just too much. I did not buy book two...and not sure I will...

This thrilling, adventurous novel is defintiely something suspense-lovers would enjoy. The main characters, Peter and Thea create the suspense in the story by taking turns leading the story. The foreshadowing near the end of each chapter creates an even more suspenseful feeling and adds to this creative, imaginative story. The main section of the story takes place near Qaanaaq,Greenland, but the main characters adventure dowm underground and into an icy town called Gracehope. Peter is an adventurous, curious boy who also has special seeing powers. He sees mysterious objects with his powers and those objects guide him to the tunnel to Gracehope. While Peter is wandering around near the surface, Thea is planning an expedition to reach the surface with her cousin, Mattais. But when this mischeavous, young duo gets trapped and Mattias gets hurt in the ice, Thea calls for help and meets Peter. The two protagonists take Thea's cousin back to Gracehope and a conflict between Rowen and them begins. Rowen, the antagonist, is also the city council leader and she is mad at them because they left the city boundries without asking for permission and she will punish them severly. Many city folk will help them, but Peter and Thea have a dangerous fight ahead of them when Rowen unveals her lethal threat of sealing the passage to the surface forever.

The general storyline is well-known to most of us, even those who haven't read it, but it was certainly interesting to read the original to see how it all came about. The story opens with an outsider's account of Mr. Hyde, by a Mr. Enfield who witnesses the man's evil nature one night after he assaults a young girl and then refuses to account for his actions to the crowd that gathers. From here, Mr. Enfield's friend, a Mr. Utterson who is the lawyer of Dr. Jekyll, begins to investigate to find out what connection his client has to Mr. Hyde. The end would have been a shocker to Stevenson's audience at the time the book was written, but is quite familiar to modern-day audiences. My complaints with the book lie mainly with structure rather than writing. The final chapter makes up for the slow beginning and middle as it is Dr. Jekyll's personal account of his experiences. What I found most interesting in his account is the idea of the split personality - it was not that he took up a potion and changed into someone completely new, but that both selves were there in the beginning and by the ingestion of certain chemicals, one self came to dominate. Had the rest of the book been written in a manner to convey this throughout, rather than simply at the end, I think I would have found it more effective and interesting to read.
Literally put in my hands by Paisley. Loved it and wanted more. :)

A delightfully simple book which explains some deep aspects of Christianity in an accessible way. The book includes a great description of why Christians believe that God is Trinity, and some of the profound implications of this belief. It also gives a very understandable account of human sinfulness, and how exactly Jesus is able to overcome this sin. I especially recommend this book to anyone who has not encountered alternatives to atonement theology (viz., that Jesus died for our sins to pay the price that was owed to God for our sins). This is book taps into an ancient alternative to that viewpoint, explaining Jesus' death in another way.

The first in KMM's Highlander series, which of course I started reading out of order. Doesn't really matter though, as it seems that each of the stories are self-contained enough to enjoy without having to start at the beginning. This story is about at 21st century woman, Adrienne, who is transported back in time to medieval Scotland. There are gypsies, fae magic, alpha heroes... A very fine story.

This magazine felt like a lot of turn-of-the-century name dropping. It wasn't really clear why some of the characters were even included in the story. It had some good moments, but overall it was dreary and depressing. Mostly it left me curious how they managed to turn it into a hit musical. It was mentioned on the front cover, so it must be true.
