This is such an AP English book: it's full of sex and death and operatic undertones, with a questionably-reliable narrator thrown in. Every phrase is packed with meaning. I love it! Plus, this is Daniel Handler (better known as Lemony Snicket), so you get his meticulous wit, meta-writing, and wonderfully recurrent motifs. Good stuff.

Yes, this is basically a text book and yes, I'm a big dork for reading it cover to cover... but this book taught me a lot about the Mayan calendar and their ancient beliefs. Absolutely worth the read if you're at all interested in astronomical processes.

I love the combative tone of this collection of Baffler essays. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a strongly worded, and very entertaining attack on, the all-too-common doctrine of market populism: that the market always arrives at optimal wealth distributions and that the market is the only true source of democracy. If the book, and this style of "salvo," has a flaw, it is the repressive lack of a positive program. Unlike the muckrakers who these writers emulate, these essays do not take the next step: they don't articulate what they're fighting for. One can sort of infer what this program might look like, but it would be nice if along with all the sometimes suffocating (but always entertaining) critique, some fresh air and hope could be let in.

This book sucked ass. I think GO DOG GO was a better book literature-wise because it actually teaches children English. Twilight can be classified as "Anti Literature", and I seriously want my money back.

Great series to read. I have always loved the greek gods and myths we learned in school and these books take all that and bring it into our day and age! Very clever and exciting books with some fun twists too. Much better than the movie of course. For ages 9-12 but all ages will enjoy this one!
*SOOO GUD MEESHA KAN WRITE HER ASS OFF *
** spoiler alert ** I actually ratcheted this up a star this time through...this has long been my least favorite in the series. As I commented before, I remember being extremely irritated by the endlessly protracted adolescent hormonal-ness of the 100 pages on the Yule Ball, it seemed to dominate the whole book. This time though I had enjoyed a couple hundred pages of the story before the Yule Ball hit, and it only detracted slightly from my enjoyment of the story. I feel so bad for Harry! It's hard reading them all in a row and knowing what's going to happen. I was like, "No, Harry, don't touch the Tri-Wizard Cup!!! IT'S A TRAP!" It's so tragic how he doesn't know! :(

bumbu cinta banyak tergambar pada "sepatu kaca" AJ, intriknya masih tidak "WAH" dan tidak begitu berkesan sehingga tidak membuatku mengingat potongan cerita. tetapi tetap mengasikkan menikmati karya AJ, tetap mengalir bagai air tanpa mampet.
Unusually, the last in trilogy is the best
In this memoir of 1930s Berlin Isherwood reflects on the writing of "The Berlin Stories," shifting back and forth between his real-life friends and events and the fictional characters and events they inspired. It sounds tiresome but it really works, and is even comprehensible to someone who hasn't read "The Berlin Stories." Because Nabokov lived, worked and set almost all of his Russian novels in 1920-30s Berlin, I'm accustomed to thinking of the city as his ground, but Isherwood made his own world of it, too. The cover of this edition is rather lame, a Herbert List photograph of a scrawny teen in tighty-whities, standing contrappasto in knee-deep water. Now, I realize that publishers cannot issue a book by a gay writer without a homoerotic cover image, but come on: Herbert List has better pictures...and there's always August Sander if you want great images of German society at the time.

Lisede Phyllis Whitney gizemlerini okuduğumu hatırlıyorum. Harika olduklarını düşündüm. Belki de kütüphaneye gideceğim ve yakında bazı şeylerini tekrar okuyacağım ...
