I stayed up way too late last night reading this. I'm more than halfway through and wishing I had way more time to read. I am so in love with the characters. The Capital makes me sick to my stomach and thinking about the fate of the kids makes me want to just hug my own a little closer. Great story so far. I am a slow reader at best and finished this book in 4 days. This must be a record for me. I found myself emotionally attached to the characters and stealing more time in my day to finish the story. Wow...wow...wow.

A satisfying read, especially after just seeing the movie. The characters are fuller, a lot of the action takes place in their heads, and the structure of alternating narrators works well. I felt the movie, although enjoyable, turned into another Michael Cera vehicle (I like the guy, but his characters are a bit too consistent) with a bit of "Dude, Where's my Girl Friend?" [Caroline:] thrown in. My recommendation: go read "Boy Meets Boy" after this if you haven't already.

I thoroughly enjoyed this translation of Sophocles Theban plays. Robert Fagles placed the plays in the order written, rather than in their dramatic chronology. At first I thought this was strange, but I followed his lead and read 'Antigone' first. Now, after reading Oedipus the King and Oedipus at Colonus, I have a much greater feeling for Antigone's suffering and a much better understanding of Creon's perspective as well. Now I'm ready to re-read Antigone better armed with the facts of their respective histories. Beyond that, what can I say about Sophocles? He treats these myths with genius skills, contemporary mastery of his times and a deep understanding of his fellow Athenians. An amazing accomplishment and an important work for any serious student of drama or literature to read deeply and repeatedly. The Thug perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMD18... *************** 2015 reread: Everything I said above and then some. The more Greek drama I read, the more I understand the sources and obsessions of western literature.

Funny book. It's hard to believe that anyone has such a weird family and life.

Do not like the way this went. Killing does not solve anything.

The best one so far. I actually cried the whole time from happiness, sadness, horror, their sacrifice, love. Geez, I just couldn't put it down, literally. First time read: August 1th, 2011. Second time: March 21st 2013.
