Really hard for me to get invested in. Cute story, but too many characters and odd things taking place. Glad I read it but would never read it again.
Where are we? Oddly, though Blaedel is Danish, this story could as easily been set in any American city rather than Copenhagen. The place names were Danish but there was no wisp of Scandinavia. The plot was so so but only just. I hate the title. It’s too twee and only becomes relevant late in the story. Homicide Detective Louise Rick and her partner investigate a rape. Soon the case grows legs when rapist’s next victim dies and other women speak out about enduring similar attacks. The plot circles around the dangers of internet dating and its subculture. Blaedel states that there are two types of internet daters. One group post profiles to meet someone for a long term relationship then disappear from the dating sites when they find one. The other group becomes addicted to the online dating process and put profiles up in multiple places for long periods of time. They’re serial daters who are not interested in the people they meet but the process of online dating. The rapist belongs to this second group. He’s an online predator and knows how to disappear into the ethers after his crimes. Detective Rick’s relationships with her best friend Camilla and her live in lover Peter also seem off. There’s no evident affection between them and though Rick’s well characterized neither Camilla nor Peter are. It wasn’t a bad story it just wasn’t good. Definitely steer clear of it if you’re looking for one of the many great new Scandinavian books.

Good, and not your run of the mill vampire fare.

I really enjoyed this book. I would love to read the complete series.
I loved this book! I was sad when it was over. It kept me turning page after page. It was the right amount of magical story and real life situations.

This one was definitely better than its predecessor. They even made it so that the chapter titles don't spoil you on what's to come! I'm looking forward to reading The Iron Queen.

There are so many ways and reasons you'll enjoy this collection. Some: 1. If you can picture the intersection of 57th and Indiana. 2. To picture the intersection of 57th and Indiana in the 1920s, 30s, 50s. 3. Danny O'Neill at 8, 14, 40. 4. "Boyhood." (It's perfect) University of Chicagoans (and groupies) may be especially interested in "A Front-page Story," "All Things are Nothing to Me," and "Norman Allen" where the U of C, as setting and symbol, figures prominently. By the way does anyone know why Farrell's Irish Catholic Chicagoans call the University "A.B.A"? As in: "What's wrong with the Jesuit University?" Tommy belligerently asked Joe. "It's too far out on the north side," Joe said. "It would have been better than that A.B.A dump across the park..."

not a bad book at all, still too teenagery for my taste though. at least it didn't involve vampires

I read this book myself and with my kids before the movie was released and we all fell in love with this sweet and mighty mouse. Read the book, dont watch the movie. The movie was a complete hollywood disappointment.
