** spoiler alert ** Oh I loved this book too! Its so sweet, and sad and wonderful. I cried. My teacher read it outloud in my 5th grade class and when the character died, I turned to the little boy next to me (I think his name was PJ Gaskill--I can't believe I remember this), and said, "That's not true is it?" and he looked at me with tears in his eyes and nodded. It was probably one of the first mature interactions I ever had with an "icky" boy.

This magical novella inspired by Shakespeare's Twelfth Night was recently reprinted, fortunately for anyone who missed out on the original limited run. I've been a Liz Hand devotee since my freshman year of college, entranced by her lush, evocative prose — not to mention her skill at conjuring the fantastic out of the (seemingly) ordinary — and this all-too-brief story puts her talents on display. Moving, otherworldly and unexpected. Read more about Illyria at Hand's website (complete with journals, photos and drawings circa 1975). And then go buy it.* Or get it out from your local library. *Unless you are really uptight where fictional accounts of incest are concerned. At the heart of this tale is a relationship between teenage first cousins. You (hypothetical uptight person) might be surprised to learn that not so long ago this wasn't an issue that worried anyone...
Kind of laughing at myself for labeling this "travel."

perfectly crafted fictional memoir, the novel develops slowly, the narrator becomes less reliable and then the bottom falls out at the end
Eddie's Shorts:Vol II by M. Edward McNally Reviewed by Alex Canton-Dutari I am impressed by McNally's description of the intricacies of the human mind, which he aptly described in Eddie's Shorts Vol. I. This has been reinforced in the two stories in Vol. II. Brain Damaged I found to be a perfect reproduction of an actual case, with a very interesting climax. His descriptions and dialogues make the plots believable. Perhaps now I understand how Ed has evolved to writing historical fantasy… with a more mature prose.
Looking at the photos of fabrics makes me very happy! I also love reading about how they are traditionally made and used. The projects inspire me to be creative with the traditional fabrics I own.
Excellent book. It was very encouraging, and I can believe that this is a true story and not something made up for fame or money, partly because everything in it is biblically correct and partly because there is some circumstantial evidence (I think it's circumstantial?) based on the fact that he said that Akiane's portrait of Jesus is exactly what Jesus looks like. (Akiane is another girl who said that she saw heaven when she was about 4...though I highly doubt she is actually saved, which is a whole other story)
In case I haven't told you this already: we must all become behavioral economists. No new information for me in this book, but I enjoyed many of the examples.

I thought this was really fascinating. I couldn't really sit with it for more than 20 minutes at a time, but it was still a pretty fast read.
总的嗡嗡声书。 我差点丢掉它。
