This was a powerful look at the negative impact the Holocaust had on the lives of it survivors. Written in an unusual flashback format, Wiesel tells the challenges of burying the dead that died in the camps. It was interesting to note that the haunting pain always stays with the survivors and how that stunts their emotional growth later on. A quick read for anyone interested in post traumatic stress and Holocaust stories.

Wow. This is an intense and heavy read, but worth it in the long run. It took me a while to get into it, and it floundered a little in the middle, but the overall feeling of this book was gripping, dusturbing, chilling and sad. As this is written in 1st person, and as the protagonist is a 'loner' with definite social problems, most of the book is dialogue with himself. This can make for heavy reading at times, but it's also quite inthralling looking into the mind of a man whose view of reality and the world is so different from the ordinary. The descriptions of Engleby's life at boarding school was absolutely chilling, and incredibly sad. The sections towards the end of the book, when his friend Stellings is describing him in a police statement is also incredibly sad - one of the few times we actually get to see Mike as others see him. Of course, as a reader you have to be aware that everything he writes is subjective - can we really believe ANYTHING he says in his narrative? Even when he's quoting someone, or quoting from Jennifer's diary, can we really be sure that it's the truth? A book that's interesting on so many levels - its literary devices, its content, its exploration of mental illness/'personality disorders" and as a portrait of an abnornmal person and his realtionship with the world. Faulks is certainly an incredibly intelligent writer, and this book may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you can hang in there, it's worth reading.

It was hilarious, funny and worth reading.
It is a suspense book--I like that it kept me engaged although I wasnt too keen on some of the connections to incest. I like the end where she wraps it all up nicely.
Vampires abound, though with far fewer tortured gazes than in the "Twilight" books ... This is definitely worth a read.

In 120 pages, this book manages to articulate all the reasons I loved this magazine, and all the reasons I eventually hated it (primarily staff turnover and the sale to a company that didn't give a rodent's behind about what made it great in the first place). Without going into great detail about every little staff squabble and behind-the-scenes politicking, How Sassy Changed My Life talks about the different personalities on the staff, how they came together, and how they eventually fell apart, and it does it all without even assigning blame. (Well, maybe there's a little blame, but it's mostly on advertisers and publishing conglomerates--in other words, entities instead of individuals.) I want to sit down with a stack of my old back issues (sadly, recycled nearly a decade ago). It's almost an aside at the end of the book, but I was completely unsurprised to learn that both Bust and Bitch magazines were founded by grown-up fans of Sassy, as a Sassy for our 20- and 30-something demographic.

more like a 3 1/2, but i rounded up. i like this one a lot better than the alchemist - probably because i tend to enjoy books about being nearly good or almost evil. and the devil incarnate (in the not-spooky way) is always facinating to me - think master & margarita, except not as inticate or creative. Coehlo's a good storyteller but tends writes like a more like a psychologist.

I love the Maximum Ride books. 4 got a little preachy, but i'm dying to know how patterson will wind up the series. I Recommend these books to everyone.

Finally started reading Jane Austen. Now I understand why she is so popular.

A little too much overwrought emotionalism at times for me, but with a fairly interesting mystery and stand-out fascinating unique characters!
