Even though I re-read this later in life and found it a little tarnished and not speaking to my soul anymore (Though I strongly remember the color of the apartment, the bathroom I re-read it in, the decor, the smell of sandlewood incense, the way sunlight pooled perfectly on the beige couch just when I had to be at horrible cafe job in thirty minutes), i love it anyway for loving it in the 90s when I was living a version of Abram's life. Abram is still a hero!

Kind of a mystery, kind of a romance, kind of a Sci-fi thing. Entertaining, quick read.

Full disclosure. I love Madeleine Albright. She is a hero to me--brilliant, tough, and a successful Secretary of State. It makes me love Bill Clinton more for choosing her to represent America to the world. The Mighty and the Almighty was not the most fascinating memoir I've ever read (sorry Maddy!). But its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. Albright talks about the Clinton administration's decision-making processes (which she speculates are far, far different from those of the current administration), and speaks candidly of both their foreign policy triumphs and errors. All in all, interesting thoughts of a fascinating American.

This book was actually pretty good. Not that I thought it wasn't going to be. But I mean it was interesting to read how one event can effect more than those who were directly involved. Cheryl is killed... outsiders may think the only people truly effected by her death is her family. Sure it will effect her friends, but they'll move on. Same with her boyfriend. But people don't know how much Jason and Cheryl were in love. They were married... and though they were still in school... they were starting a family. Jason is devestated by Cheryl's death and the town using him as a scapegoat (when you read the book you'll find out why)... he is strongly effected by this whole event. He felt Cheryl is the love of his life, she was his life, the way he saw it. And though people may think, "You're young, you'll move on," Jason doesn't move on. His family is effected by this whole event... they are split apart by Reg's harsh judgement on his son's actions. Year's later Jason meets Heather... someone who is 7 years and a thousand miles away from the incident... but she is still effected. Jason's attitude and her love for him effects her. Hey Nostradamus! really puts events into perspective in that if you change just one life... you change many in the process. The writing was wonderful and you could really feel for the characters and who they were talking to. The relationships that were formed were all real, everyone was very real. I could honestly see all this having taken place. Maybe because school shootings are real. And real people have died. Are there stories out there exactly like Cheryl's? Perhaps we should look deeper before we praise someone or point our fingers at them. Yeah... the book's going to make you think. Sorry. It's still good though!

I did not pick up this book expecting a deep story, nor a really involved one. However, I was surprised. I enjoyed it, the portrayal of the vampires, of Sam and of Sookie were spot on for me. I did have to try twice to read it, once a number of years ago and then again a couple nights ago. I'll continue on with the series, and we'll see how I do with it. The mystery that was presented surprised me at the end. I really didn't think that the person who actually did the deed was guilty until the end. I do enjoy that about novels. I won't watch the tv show. I've heard it can ruin the books, and I'd prefer to not have that happen.

A book that was on my list of things that I really should get around to reading someday. I'm glad to be able to finally cross it off the list. It's quite good and somewhat haunting. It's distopian nature strongly emphasized, and yet the distopia has an eerie seductiveness that is not always present in the genre. A rather quick read as well (I read most of it on a short plane ride).

I really like fantasy, but I was a little disappointed in this book. The world the author sets up is SO different from ours, that it hits you a little bit too hard all at once. Also, I felt like Twig's adventures went too quick. He was barely out of one mess when he would suddenly be in the midst of a new one and almost every chapter could have been a stand-alone short story. There are many characters who come and go so fast that you don't get to know any of them. I didn't even feel a great attachment to Twig himself by the end of the book. I don't mean to rip this book apart, there were definitely things I liked about it too. Once the initial shock of it all was over, I quite liked the fantasy world the author set up and I DID go on to read the second book in the series. =)

This book is about a NY times food critic. She sometimes disguises herself to review restaurants, to avoid being identified. The book makes you very hungry for good food. This was a very quick read and entertaining.
I have read numbers 1-6 of the Lakeshore series and they hard to beat if you just want an easy to read entertaining romance novel.
