This is an amazing story! I didn't start "loving it" until the last half of the book (it's a long story), but it is definitely a book I would recommend to everyone. Not only for the amazing survival story, but also for the insights in to World War II.

I would probably have given this a 2.5 if that was an option. It was entertaining enough-- but I found it a little simpering at times. I did appreciate his honesty about his choices in life, good and bad and it definitely got better towards the end. But during some of it, I was wondering, "Where are you going with this?" and I didn't always get that answered.

Luckily, the book that followed did not disappoint. This is one of those books that I really struggled with because I didn't want to put it down, but I didn't want to finish it too quickly, either. This is a great book for anyone who enjoys disappearing into beautiful yet threatening fantasy worlds, and savors the little things enough to stop and run a hand along the uneven stone walls just to see how they feel. ****UPDATE**** I just had the opportunity to met Ms. Bunce at a literacy conference, and she is as wonderful as her writing. She graciously signed two of her books for me as I gushed over her work like a silly fool.
