It had its high points and it had its low points. Overall it was a combination of a cute story (but very typical) and good writing that got its four stars. Ibbotson did a very good job of making Muriel a very hateable character. She made Anna sound great, although maybe a little too much of the pure-hearted-princess kinda thing. Rupert was very likeable, and Sergei I would really like to meet (but not marry, no matter how handsome. Seriously, because you'd always be fighting with other women for his attention). I was laughing when I figured out how Anna's countess secret was going to come out at the end there. My favorite scenes were probably 1: When Rupert came running in to the salon yelling at Anna not to cut her hair and how she didn't end up doing it, 2: The scene described during the ball, both the dancing AND the outside part when Rupert was will her and when Sergei found her. She is so lucky to have to such a nice cousin. 3: My absolute favorite had to be when she came back and Rupert started attacking her about who Sergei was and she defending herself and then Rupert realizing his mistake and holding her.

A decent rendition of the Hamlet tale. A few f-bombs and other disturbing scenes here and there. The lack of traditional conversational punctuation bothered me the entire time I was reading the book. Recommended but with those reservations.

This is one of my favorite Bentley Little books. I love the way he takes ordinary instances and turns them dark and sinister and sadistic. The Store is a new large department store that has come to town. The main character has been against its opening for all the same reasons: losing small town business, not contributing to local growth, etc etc etc. once the store opens he can only wish those were the problems the store creates. The Store is somehow able to have stocked and give to you your hearts desires, especially the bad ones. His daughter starts to work there to his objections and where Little goes with how much the daughter does for the store is mind blowing. From the early signs of evil through the night managers and the corporate level this story kept me riveted and wanting more. I love when The Store shows up in other Little books even though generally its in passing so far and not part of other stories but I could easily see how he could work that out. Definite must read!!!

This book was written a number of years after the apocolypse and was so sad. It took me a little while to get into, but I kind of craved reading this (while depressing, but mildly heartwarming) story of a dad and his son trying to live in a world that was almost impossible to live in and make choices that didn't compromise their beliefs. This book is rather haunting, but I'm glad I read it.

The first Newsflesh was good and volume 2 is better in almost every way. I was a bit wary of Sean as a narrator at first, as his "on camera" persona in FEED is a bit overbearing. Grant does a great job transitioning him to the lead, with a subtler hand in the narration that serves the story and the character. The supporting cast feels more three-dimensional this time around as well. The stakes are bigger too(which is saying a lot). There's a lot of padding here -- extreme repetition of people's reactions to Sean's neuroses, for example -- which makes it easy to skim pages if you're not careful. The themes at play involving truth, fear and security, never really come together in this volume, but the growing conspiracy against an apocalyptic backdrop sure makes for a hell of a compulsive read.

I really liked it. I thought is was like a realistic Candace Bushnell book.

Fast, funny read. I love Stephanie Plum.
A very interesting story, but the writing wasn't all that great. I may not have noticed the awkward moments as much if I had read the book, rather than listening to the audio.
I'm not quite sure what to think of this sequel. It certainly is not as big in scope as the first book. There is less novelty and depth. But, it is more than just a book to move the plot forward. Many of the passages are hard to follow-- I think on purpose. Yet, they typically have something of worth when you look hard at them. There is little that I remember from having read it before-- not a surprise given the shape of the book. But I liked it and the plot moved relentlessly forward with my captured attention.
