I'd say this is one of those few books that talks about old-timey diseases and doctoring without making you want to throw up.

Loved it! Such a funny, witty, modern love story.
I think this was a well-written and well-illustrated peice of art that has grasped my attention. I enjoyed every twist in the plot, the new characters and such. I felt Yura's pain of being known as "Yukari Shiraki's daughter" or "Takayuki Onosuka's daughter" instead of Yura Onosuka. Of being defined by her celebirty parent's success in their careers. I cheered for Yura when she went out to find success in a career of her own. I laughed at some of the parts where she was like WHAT?!?! and I partied when she succeeded. You could say that I felt it was me instead of Yura in this book or that we were the same person; that's how much I enjoyed it.
A 19th-century techno-thriller. Fun.

Quite entertaining and definitely perverse. Ah, the power of delusions and addiction! Though some ideas were far fetched, I enjoyed some of the underlying messages and truths of this book, and admired the originality. There is a need in all of us to leave a little something to show for every day of our existence...

Couldn't put it down - great mystery. Could be too graphic for some.
Love the musical, had a hard time getting through the book. Not a big fantasy person. However, I do find VERY interesting the underlying themes of discrimination, politics, power, spin, "wickedness," and group-think. Extremely relevant to today's society.

My daughter actually recommended this book and warned me not to let the title or the cover turn me off, which they initially did. I read this book in a day, engrossed by the characters' relationships as well as the internal conflicts happening within and between characters on a number of levels. I would definitely recommend this book to YA readers as I think they could relate to both the plot and characters. The dialogue, at times, can seem a little deep and uncharacteristic of the characters, but overall, the relationships were smoothly interconnected and real. I really felt sympathy for Ginny, Caulder, and Smitty, and I admired their friendship and their willingness to hang on to it by always redefining, exploring, and stretching it. Even my husband, who does not read YA books, agreed that he thought it was well-written and engaging.

I enjoyed the first story, a short story about one of the characters from the Abhorsen series, so I'd give that at least 3 stars. However, I only read a few of the short stories after that one b/c they didn't keep my interest--thus, the 2 stars.
