Though there were characters and storylines in the book that were not as compelling as others, I loved this book. I enjoyed the thread woven through each story and the idea of the illumination.
Well written but I just don't care that much for time travel stories. They seem so deus ex machina to me.

Man eating tropical islands and long boat rides with Tigers. Who could ask for anything more? I read this book and then promptly sent it to my brother, who was in the desert right after the war started. We both loved it, but I suspect he did for much different reasons than I.
I know this book is A Classic, but I have to say that I think its redundant. After a while, I was bored with it, and to be honest never even finished the book. Is that wrong?

From the Publisher Selling over 16,000 copies in hardcover, this triumphant coming-of-age memoir is now available in paperback editions in both English and Spanish. In the tradition of Black Ice, Santiago writes lyrically of her childhood on her native island and of her bewildering years of transition in New York City.

Book has been completely overhyped as a NY times bestseller. Didn't feel like Gladwell's thesis was compelling and wasn't too impressed by his writing. Book is collection of scientific/cultural studies proving the point that human intuition and snap judgments may prove to be more accurate than drawn out decision making.

I enjoyed this book tremendously and it was finished before I had time to notice. I found the level of the language and the dialogue as a bit too easy, especially when compraing it to what I got used to in the past week (aka, vanity fair), but the plot and adventures made up for it. I think though, that the simplicity of the language ruined a bit of the experience of reading the book. I'm also not too sure of the historical facts, I am not too well researched on ancient Egypt. But this book definitely gave me a thirst to find more books on the subject. I did love Toya (Seti's wife), it's refreshing to read of a strong woman in ancient culture. 20.3.07

One of my daughter's friends works at a local bookstore and recommended this book to me...she said it was 'life-changing'. I can see how it would be life-changing for a young person who hasn't read a ton and investigating a lot of different world-views. For myself, it was a quick read, and it does fit with my philosophy of man as animal. I don't believe we would be better off as hunter-gatherers, though, migrating and picking berries, with short life-spans, few creature-comforts, and the law of the jungle. Worth reading once.
Easy read, very fast, fun if you're familiar with Brooklyn. Kind of predictable but makes you feel good afterward.

Dalgleish is called to the clinic when the Administrative Officer is found dead from a chisel into her chest in the basement filing room. Since the clinic was kept locked after the discovery of the body, and all people logged in upon entry, he believes that the murderer is still in the building. After interviewing all the patients, doctors and staff, he begins to develop suspicions. This book was written in 1963 and its depiction of a mental health clinic seem rather old (treating patients with electric shock therapy and LSD), but the story, though short, runs quickly.
