The chronicles of Narnia for athiests. While at times Pullman can list woefully towards melodromatic prose, as a whole these books are some of the most fantastic fantasy books for young adults ever.

As all her books I loved it. It was fun to watch and see how she weaves her story.
1944 Caldecott Medal Winner Illustrations outlined in ink and filled in with water color. Primary colors dominate, particularly red and blue with an occasional large object in yellow. I wasn't really a fan of the art--it seemed scribbly and abstract. Definitely different from the previous Caldecott winners, though. A version with more modern illustrations by Marc Simont was published in 1998. I also didn't get into the story much. The Princess Lenore is ill and says that only the moon will make her better, so the king summons all of his wisest men. In the end, the Court Jester proposes to consult the Princess herself about some questions on the moon, and she proves in her childlike wisdom to have the solutions herself. I did appreciate that part of the story, but as an adult stories that repeat a similar theme multiple times tend to bore me. I bet some kids would love it, though.

Finallly FINIIIISSSHHHEEEDD!! Ugh, this book was so long, very similar to the story-telling of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. There were stories within the story that I just wanted to skip through, but couldn't in case they were important... which they mostly weren't. However, the author does make you care about the rabbits as if they were real people, so he did achieve depth of character in that way. I'm just glad I can finally move on to something else :)
Had this in my TBR pile for a while and brought it along on a mini vacation. In the end I enjoyed the book, but in the beginning I found Maggie annoying and hard to like and kept wishing Rose would tell her to disappear. Well that finally happens, but at a price to Rose. Some things should not be shared among sister (boyfriends are off limit - shoes are fair game). After that I found Maggie's stay at Princeton funny and ingenious. Rose went through her dark times, but came to the realization that life isn't just about the high power job. Slowly she found herself and her likes and savored her happiness. The girls become entrepreneurs with jobs they enjoy. Rounding out the story of two unique sisters are a long lost grandmother, some old Jewish people in Florida, a few dogs, a little fashion and the tough subject of mental illness. Weiner was able to combine this and turn it into an enjoyable story with a happy ending!

I feel sort of wrong giving this book stars even though I didn't read it all, but I will just say this: I liked the Chapters on How to Eat/Cook like Food Matters, and the recipes were good and had some very helpful tips. But the first half of the book was mostly just facts and statistics about how unhealthy we are and how badly modern agriculture is screwing up the planet. If you don't need to be persuaded of this because you already know it, just skip the first few chapters (unless you like to memorize random numbers).
I thought this book was good. If you or someone you know has an addiction problem, I actually thought it had some good tips. I must tell you all this book took me about 3 days longer to read than it should have. I got down to the last 60 pages and I was determined to finish it and family issues got in the way. Last night, I was going to finish the book, I had 20 pages to go and the power went out! I guess, I was not meant to finish!
