One of the best books. An easy read, a good story. I didn't really know alot about what happened to the slaves when they came to Canada or about the horrific way they came to North America.

I have been reading this series for so long, and one of the things that keeps me coming back over and over each time a new book is released is the character development. This time, we got to see Rachel's interactions with a character whom she has seen as no-good with iffy morals, and it was wonderful to see this particular relationship get more screen time. It's rare that an adult character will mature and change this much in a series; it's much easier with YA as the main characters in YA are still in their teenage years and so it is a given that they will change in leaps and bounds, but with adults the change is more subtle and comes through big life experiences. This has become my favorite of the series, hands down. A witch, elf, vampire, and a pixy on the great american road trip = a fantastic read!

if you like Stephen King even a little bit you have to read this one. get the unabridged version if you can find it.. clocks in at over 1100 pages. i was younger when i read it so maybe i was more into the sci-fi genre then than now, but the apocalyptic theme is certainly relevant in 2007. the TV adaptation was godawful. M-O-O-N, that spells Unwatchable. if you were unfortunate enough to be exposed to it, that sucks, your well has been poisoned. expunge that memory and dig in. p.s. it's "The Stand", not "Stand". get it right goodreads!

Ok now that more people have read this book, here is my long review. Be prepared to read a novel. :D I will divide this into 2 sections. The first part is my original review w/out spoilers. The second part contains spoilers. Well, Stephenie Meyer has done it again. I loved this novel just as much as the first three. Let's face it, most of her books are fairly predictable; however, she has a talent of making the predictable happen in unexpected ways.

Quite enjoyed the story throughout the book though I found some things remained vague and unexplained; perhaps by design. I kind of wish they'd ended a chapter before they did. I found it an ending that felt dull and the scene unresolved. Perhaps it was and I just couldn't hear properly over the ever increasing music volume of the audiobook outro. Narrators were enjoyable to listen to and I want to find more books read by them.
still crazy

This book was my first introduction to Murakami and to be honest I was enthralled from the beginning. His writing really draws you in and makes you want to keep flipping the pages. I thought the book started strong, but then ended really strangely, though, as I know now, that's Murakami's style. All of his books seem to devolve into weird fantasies, which is the case in Kafka as well. Even though I really don't like all the metaphysical, fantastic out of world stuff, and I thought the feminists scene was lame, plus I hate jazz (which Murakami describes incessantly in the book), I still really enjoyed Kafka. Murakami is clearly an amazing writer and this book quite simply draws you in, in a way few other books manage, which is why I heartily recommend it despite its flaws.
King's greatest talent is on display here. His ability to create a character and watch him slowly twist into insanity. This is magnified a hundredfold b/c the reader is right along side the character until he jumps over the fence to dig up his dead son, and then you find yourself going, Whoa! But it's too late b/c the real illumination is in that moment where King shows you how close we all are to tipping over into the land of aluminum foil headgear, aliens in the microwave, and the deepest loss of self.
