In terms of quality, this book is worth less than one star. For entertainment value, it's a 5+. According to the book's test, I am an "indigo child" and thus should be able to travel through time by not looking at clocks. That's right, time doesn't exist if you don't look at clocks. Because this book has a disturbingly high rating on Goodreads, I would like to amend my review to read: IF YOU BELIEVE THIS BOOK, YOU ARE ACTIVELY HARMING YOURSELF AND YOUR CHILDREN.
I don't read a LOT of "kids books" for the most part but because there are a lot of kids in my life, I do upon occasion and I'm pretty familiar with what's out there. One of the things I hated as a kid, and still do, was how books intended for that age group seem so condescending. The writing style of this book was NEVER that and included a well-advanced vocabulary and a great sarcastic wit in the humor that kept me entertained - even as an adult. The kids in my life have read it and enjoyed it as well so I really can't wait for the second book in the series to come out!

An intricately woven piece-rich in charm and somberness.
This YA series about a teen ghost whisperer was recommended to me and I have to admit that it was a quick, fun read, so I may continue now that I am reaching the end of the Queen Betsy series.

I really didn't expect to enjoy these IDW comics very much but this was a really great continuation of the story, good character development. Armstrong really seems to understand these characters and know what to do with them.

I liked the fact that this book deals with imagination and play because I think that is something kids need to use more of today. I thought the illustrations were wonderful and playful. And I didn't mind that there wasn't a lot of dialog and that the illustrations told the story. My only problem with the book was the mudkin dialog. I didn't care for the fact that it was illegible. I am sure it was meant to illustrate the fact that it was coming from the girl's imagination and it left it up to the reader to decide what he was saying, but I think kids will find it confusing. I wish his lines would have been written out. I think that would have made the book a little better.
After her husband dies an English woman decides to go abroad to Italy for a vacation. Her life changes and her husbands family is sent to rescue her and save their name. A great story of English elite out of their element in a foreign setting.

** spoiler alert ** I liked this book more so than the first one in this series. I still felt a bit undecided about how the mystery itself played out in the end. Almost a feeling of- hmmm..... but, I am so intrigued by Isabel herself and how her life will play out- that I have to keep going. I already have the 3rd one checked out from the library. I especially enjoy the descriptions of the Edinburgh environs, the philosophical musings, the social lives intertwined in Edinburgh. I can relate to Isabel- and like her character! Hard to believe a man has written these books!
My freshman year of college I wrote a paper comparing Claudius (from Hamlet) with Machiavelli's ideal Prince. Good times.
