Non-fiction that reads like fiction, and is funny

This was by far my favorite book as a child. WWII historical fiction.
Super academic, as it's intended to be, but really excellent reading about the city of Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain). If you want to go beyond the touristy face of the city, this is informative about literature from and on Barcelona, as well as architecture in the city and the image the city has maintained as its urban center has developed in about the last century and a half.
I'm your number one fan, Kathy Bates! This is one of the few novels that rings true as a superior movie (unlike the Shining, which was vastly different than the novel of which King is responsible).

Short, fun and sick read! I thought it was more interesting to read about how the two authors collaborated on the story. It gave me a great idea.

I want to start by saying I had really high expectations for this book. I loved COLTERS’ WOMAN and COLTERS’ LADY and expected to love this one too. It fell a little flat for me. I enjoyed reading it, but I didn’t have the same emotional response that I did to the previous two. It might have been the D/s relationship between Callie and Max. Usually books with that theme don’t bother me, but Max was just a little too domineering. I also thought that the independent Callie was a little too eager to give Max control. I did love the ending of the book and felt satisfied in the end that Max and Callie were really for each other.

First of all, this book is WAAAAAAAY too long. It could have been shortened by about half. There is so much detail and so many things are explained/described ad nauseum, and often things that the reader thinks are importent are just red herrings. That said, the author also has the annoying tendency to not elaborate or ultimately explain/resolve things that ARE important. No, the unfortunate reader is simply strung along for HUNDREDS of pages of worthless descriptions and endless details. I confess, it had me at the beginning: I love a good mystery, and was eager to find out what happened to Danny and why. Then, after he returns, the book becomes downright creepy as it becomes clear that he has somehow "changed." I'm the mother of a boy, and I totally related to how Molly felt with this difficult to please and (IMHO) obnoxiously-behaved child who looked like her son but didn't act like him. But then, the book changes yet again into a ridiculous save-the-earth rant that was unbelieveably silly. I mean, Danny actually, literally hugs a tree. Are you kidding me? I truly wasted my time on this one, but I do have to admit that it did give me more than a chuckle or two, so maybe I should have rated it higher for the comedy factor....

Atwood is brilliant, as usual.
This book had such an interesting story. Two girls that were camping were attacked by a man with an ax, and nobody was tried for the crime. Yet, when the author goes back to the place of the crime, everybody in town says they know who did it... Pretty intriguing.
Awesome! A wonderful conclusion to how things worked out for Joy.
