mormons! it tries to be balanced about mormonism - which is a difficult aim that i don't think it quite hits; it stays a bit to the negative side. covers mormon doctrine, history, rituals, sociology and art. a pretty good combination, i do believe. i will be using this book as a reference for a class i am planning on teaching for gentiles.

So creative, and practically written about me. I share so much in common with the author/artist that I found myself getting very attached. I laughed, and cried, because it synced up all too well with my life. I love the dorky art style, but what I love most is telling my friends that I just read "The Fart Party". They have no idea how glorious the Fart Party really is.

Every time I read a book from Pratchett my feelings are quite the same. At first I laugh maybe a bit too much and after hundred pages or so, I get quite used to humor and the writing style and I must force myself to read the rest as the humor kind of like fills me up. "The Colour of Magic" didn't do an exception in this thing. I really enjoyed the beginning of book but wasn't that happy during the last pages. I think Terry Pratchett is a great comedy/fantasy writer, but I think he has much to do with storytelling. There are points where the main plot seems to be completely lost (and I don't mean just within this book). Even though this book is one of the best ones when it comes to storytelling. I always end up finding lots of things I don't like in each Terry Pratchett book and still when I summarize the book to myself I notice that I enjoyed reading it. And I must admit that this is one of the best books from Pratchett.

i read cloud atlas last year and was fairly dazzled. "this mitchell guy is talented, no doubt!" but i am so glad i read black swan green as a counter to that experience. where his other stuff seems intricate, puzzle-like, and sort of experimental, BSG is just a really good, really deep, storytelling-type story. straightforward and wonderful. beautiful and tragic. hilarious as well. one of my favorite books i've read this year, and not because of any gimmick or novelty-just simply a great book.
