I started last summer and put it down. After seeing Slumdog Millionaire, I'm anxious to get back to it. It will be on my summer reading list.

Rayne lives in London in a crowded apartment with her mom and her little brother. She has a boyfriend but he's really out of necessity since their neighborhood is a high crime area. She decides to move away for a job in the country. This job is at Morton's Keep, a country estate, where she will be a waitress in the estate's tea room. While researching her job prospect, strange pop-ups happen on their website. Rayne clicks on the pop-up and emails the website that it links to, a website about strange phenomena at the estate. This website is run by two girls who email her back and want to meet her when she arrives. Rayne meets up with the two girls and their friends, one is a mysterious boy named St. John who is instantly attracted to Rayne as she is to him. While working at the estate very strange things start to happen and her new friends might not be who they say the are. What or who is causing the strange things and why is Rayne the target? Morton's Keep's evil past is revealed but is the past still haunting the estate? A very good paranormal mystery that will be appealing to a young audience. I don't think I would teach it because it's more of a "summer" read. I think it would be an interesting read for someone who is into mysteries, ghosts, demons or England. I liked the fact that it is written by an English author because you learn a little about the country and the language.

My cousin origionally recommended this to me and then my aunt (different sides of the family) bought it for me...i was really impressed when i read it...it's fairly long but it doesn't seem like it at all...very enjoyable read.
The main characters were very sympathetic and the writing was very fast paced. A bit too fast paced in some areas where there were so many introductions to minor characters that it became hard to follow. But the story was enjoyable and I'll definitely read the rest of the series.
After Alaska, this wasn't as powerful, although it was a good read and discussed loyalties and friendships with humor and realism.

Vonnegut is a breath of fresh air. I read him from time to time to balance the optimist/escapist in me. He's very dark, but always with a sense of humor. This book was an extremely fast read, and it had a lot of good things to say about how humans can fool themselves into believing that what they're doing is right.
