Really 4.5* I am not quite sure why I can't quite give it a 5 except maybe that this isn't the type of book I typically read. I try to stay away from tear-jerkers. This one was fantastic though. The author really let us in on the everyday grind of grieving and the hard work that it is. It's a very serious book, but isn't heavy handed. The characters were living and breathing for me.

Not one of Crusie's best, but it was only her second book. Still worth reading though, the characters are, as always, fun and funny.

There is something about Kelly Link's short stories that endears them to me. I do not know if it is the fairy-tale tone of some, or the facade of normalcy that others keep until they plunge you into a bizarre alternate world. . . Whatever it is, the constant ingenuity of these short stories keeps me reading them over and over.

It is clear that Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl have written a love story to their beloved south, homecooking and genteel manners. I'm all for that, but sadly, in just a few chapters in, I was so bored. I loved the beginning of Beautiful Creatures, Ethan, Amma, and the sadness of loss hovering over them all. It was effective and drew me into an interest in where Ethan's story would go. Then Lena came along. I think it is possible to make your heroine (and the main focus of your hero's attention) too mysterious. To me, this is what Lena is. The only manefestation of her personality seems to be her insecurity in her uncertain future. I followed Beautiful Creatures to the end and yet in the end, found that I would basically follow the same path in the next book...counting down to what will happen to Lena, for real this time. The authors kept Lena too aloof to be loveable, to be interesting or to be symathetic. I loved all the other characters, how they added to the story, etc., but with Lena there, it all fades into Ethan's obsession over a girl that is hard to care about from a reader's perspective.
This was an interesting story. It held my attention, but I did not feel there was any resolution at the end - just more avoidance of the issue.

This book was great, but not quite as quick a read as Manhunt. James Swanson once again does a fabulous job transporting the reader back to the Civil War era, and I learned a lot about Jefferson Davis - someone you don't delve into too much in Northern schools.

this was a fair mystery. Too many words and a bit confusing... i would not have guessed who murdered willa or why...however, that could be because i was a bit confused...The recipes included look great...

Amazing. Just amazing. Nothing I could say in my allotted 4,000 characters could possibly do this book justice, so I'll just put it this way: Before I even started reading it, I knew East of Eden was destined to end up in my Top 5. John Steinbeck is, hands down, my favorite writer (why did it take me until two years ago to start reading him?), and although I loved both of the previous Steinbeck books I'd read (The Grapes of Wrath and Travels With Charley), deep down I knew they weren't it. This was it.
