I loved this book - a screen play of a relatively unknown arty type film released in India in the late eighties, actually. The main theme is a group of senior architect students in a remote architectural college in North India ( I presume). All the characters were eccentric and funny, there was a quaint mix of English and various Indian languages, a few predictably unpredictable characters, a stereotype Principal, adding to it all the tense final months before exams. I usually hate screen plays and dramas, these are difficult to read and comprehend. But this one was a cakewalk. I just adored the book from first page to last. I would really love to see the movie, but from the preface I understand that the movie video recording is totally damaged. Only drawback of this book is that non Indians will have a tough time to make heads or tails of it.

Como Caminhante Mecedes Thompson é mais forte que os humanos porém muito inferior em relação aos lobisomens, vampiros e seres feéricos, e tem consciência disso. No entanto, nada lhe impede de tentar salvar os que ama desses supostos seres superiores a ela. Apesar de ser tão diferente Mercedes é uma pessoa como qualquer outra. Tem de trabalhar para se sustentar, tem de dormir, comer, etc. Tem ainda um coração dividido entre Adam e Samuel, dois lobisomens dominantes que, a meu ver, estão a um passo de se desentenderem por causa dela. Foram essas semelhanças e diferenças que me fizeram adorar esta história. A escrita é fluída e simples de entender o que me leva a apreciar ainda mais a história e o enredo está muito bem conseguido e fácil de acompanhar. Ao ler o primeiro volume desta saga fiquei completamente rendida a Mercedes Thompson. Com o segundo volume fiquei com a certeza absoluta que ela é uma das melhores heroínas que tive o prazer de “conhecer” até aos dias de hoje! Recomendo mesmo muito este livro!

Without a heck of a lot of fiction (actually, next to none) dealing with gay Polynesian males, I have to either make my own, or cling to what little fiction there is about gay African American males, of which there is at least a bit more. The quality stuff is hard to find, but when it comes in short story format, it's ok, you can pick and choose as you want.

Very solid noir detective novel. I guess I can see where this would be hardcore enough to cause issues when it was published, but the "banned in the U.S." thing is ultimately very silly. That said it's a well-written book that pushes the boundaries of the day (apparently a bit too far). The writing isn't on par with the greats. The plot is enough "Red Harvest" to not be terribly original. But somehow the whole is more than the sum of the parts.

Incest is not usually a topic that you would think would make for an enjoyable play. This play managed to make a combination of incest and JFK assassination obsession into a funny engaging play that was very enjoyable regardless of its large ick factor.
