Second try posting my review. First one did not post due to a Goodreads problem. Too bad. It was pretty good I thought. Spent an hour or two composing it. Oh well... So, I really liked this one. First, this is "LDS Chick Lit". For those unfamiliar with this genre, that translates to "clean reads" with a palatable dose of LDS doctrine incorporated into it's story line. This book is part of a series by Ms. Bell that has ongoing characters and plot lines. In the case of Book 2 in the Butterfly Box series, one of my favorite characters from Book 1 is the focus of this episode. (Which is one of the reasons I liked this as much as I did). Jocelyn Rogers is the central character in this story. There is a bit of a mystery about her. The Butterfly Box contains cherished mementos from each of the five Butterfly "Sisters". In Jocelyn's case, the small white box she contributed, she has never shared with her "sisters" what the box contains. What is inside represents a significant event that occurred in her life, that is mostly responsible for her massive insecurities. An event which none of her "sisters" have any knowledge of. This story deals with concepts that are very familiar to LDS readers. The efficacy of "The Atonement". Forgiveness, particularly self-forgiveness. The abundant blessings in the giving and receiving of service. All are driving forces in the plot lines of this book. This story has a very satisfying ending. The "romantic lead" in this tale is another reason why I liked this one. His name is Jack. For those who know me well, they will understand why I have a fondness for this novel. This one fulfilled my expectations in terms of my reading enjoyment.
Lovely movie made with John Malkovich. Watch and read and learn :)

An incredible weaving of religious themes with political, social, and cultural themes. Very well crafted.

As much as I love philosophy, what I really love about this book is the tiger, and the philosophy of zoos. At times I was bored, a bit like being at sea with Pi Patel. But, an amusing book. an interesting read nonetheless.

I was wondering around Wal-Mart waiting for my husband to find what he needed in the automotive section when I came upon this strange book. I had promised myself I would read- it was okay for me to take the time. So, I gathered up two of my daughters, one of thier friends and one of mine and we all started reading. It was fun to know there were others turning the same pages I was turning, reading the same words I was reading. I don't know why, but I felt impowered somehow knowing we would meet, knowing we had a common goal. I loved this book. I loved the characters and the tweaking of the truth to bring it to life as fiction. Alright the plot was a bit predictable in places, but I didn't even care because for a few short hours I had run away with the circus. And I give Sara Gruen a high five for the best ever ending of any book I have ever read. Thank you. The main character reminded me of my own father and my daughter's felt for a moment in time their Papa had came to life in the pages of this book. I know; sappy sweet, but true for us. He was a good and gentle man. My friend read the book and he reminded her of her father. She had a different kind of dad than I did. It took her a few days to pick the book back up. She did call me though as soon as she read those last beautiful words and told me how much she loved the ending. So all in all I say read this book, see if your father or grandfather comes to life within these pages and just for a bit read for the joy of it and forget the critical read. This book is about freedom in many different ways and for me that is what reading is all about-Freedom.

I'm not very good at reading contemporary poetry. Give me Catullus or Donne or Tennyson and I'm fine. I'm iffy on most of the new stuff, though. (There are exceptions. Neruda. Li-Young Lee. Elizabeth Bishop.) But I want to be better at it, to like it more. So I'm trying. A good friend regularly raves about Pound, so it seemed as good a place to start as any. And... I don't know. There were some parts I genuinely liked, and some parts I found interesting, and some parts in which the language took my breath away. But there were also many parts that made me say "Huh?" And some that made me say "Yeah, so?" I'm glad I read it, and I will keep trying contemporary poets, both because I think it's good for me and because I'm sure I will surprise myself by liking some that I wouldn't expect. But I don't think I'll be listing Pound among my favorites.
boring and, well.....bad.

Interesting book. I didn't think the mom was quiet as crazy as the press made her out to be.
