This is the first Stephen King book I've ever read. I've always been skeptical of King's books and even the movies that have arisen from his books, but was told I should read this graphic novel and decided to take a chance. The Gunslinger Born is a continuation of King's seven part Dark Tower series, which in itself is based on Robert Browning's poem entitled "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" (a line that Browning picked up from Shakespeare's King Lear). Browning's poem follows a youth by the name of Roland on his quest of finding the Dark Tower through a disturbing set of events and landscapes. King's interpretation of the poem was intriguing and somehow made a dark poem into an even darker tale. I ended up really liking The Gunslinger Born and I was completely drawn in by Jae Lee's amazing artwork. His heavy use of strongly contrasted light and dark tones made the setting and story a deliciously darker experience. I'm now planning on reading the entire series and am especially looking forward to The Long Road Home and Treachery, the next graphic novels in the set.

Newbigin hits the question of what is required for an authentic missionary encounter between Jesus' gospel and Western culture--in its secular, pagan, post-christian, atheistic, and hardened expressions. I found I agree with much of what he argues, but at many points felt like he was saying in the mid-eighties things that Francis Schaeffer had said 20 years earlier. He ends the book with seven recommendations for the church to act upon if we hope to proclaim the good news in a way that its heard by our culture in the West. Excellent, engaging book.

I don't know what I was expecting but this one was really good. Set during the civil rights movement in South Carolina, a young white girl runs away with her black housekeeper hoping to find information about the mother she lost as a little girl. The story deals with descrimination, abuse, faith, loss, love, and relationships. A truly great read!

Awesome. I'm afraid to say anything else that might spoil it, but wow. Just awesome. A year is WAY too long to have to wait for the third book.
For the tween that loved 'Princess Academy,' 'Ella Enchanted', or 'Countess Below Stairs.' A lovely story of a Kingdom in need of saving, a secret Princess (or two, or more), and a faithful friend becoming something more.
At first, I thought it was going to be chick-lit, but it turned out to be a really good novel about discovering oneself. Funny too.
i remembering having a hard time understanding the circuits in this book, so i think it is not the best as an intro book for guitar effects circuitry, etc.. that said, the circuits do cooler stuff than anderton's other book.
