A thoughtful look at chastity for 20-something singles by an intellectually honest author I really respect.

i thought the title was the best part of the book. and i'm only being 20% facetious.

Seis cuentos en los que el autor resuelve con solvencia los peligros de que la literatura se inmiscuya en la vida.

I read this book for the title. I randomly picked it up one weekend in Scotland, but it then became the book that somehow sums up Scotland and I why I love/loved it. Plus, it talks about "nautical Scrabble"--how genius is that?

This is another heartbreaking Holocaust story, and probably my favorite. One of just a few books that has made me cry (in a good way).

Wow. This book is just as beautiful as the movie, but in a completely different way. It's short, but I found myself taking it in slowly. There is so much symbolism (so many veils so many dividers, etc) and the beauty (and ugliness) behind Kitty is fascinating. I don't have much to say about it. Besides the fact I probably enjoy the movie, plot-wise better. But Kitty's transformation in the book is just stunning and a bit life changing. So, I enjoy both mediums for different reasons. Plus Edward Norton as Walter was the best casting choice ever (I've only seen the remake :/).

Enjoyable historical adventure story, which is all I want sometimes. And Michael Chabon can write...

One of my fears of having children is that they would end up not funny or entertaining. Lee writes one of the best characterization based novels and the best child based characterization novel I've read. The kid also happens to be entertaining in a way I completely buy into..though I still believe most children over the age of 5 are not this cool and I definitely will cram this book down the throats of any kids I have just in case they are genetic duds.

An excellent review of the current neuroscience around decision-making. I learned a great deal about the brain's function in the context of how people make choices.

** spoiler alert ** I still like Carlos' book better, but this one was really good too..Maybe I just think that though because of all the good Kiara/Carlos bits. I liked Luis more that Nikki as a narrator. It was interesting to see them back in Chicago again, and the bit that you learn about Luis' parentage at the end I did have an inkling about. I loved the epilogue and wish the author would write more books for this series.
