Amazing!! Cassandra Clare did it again! She never fails! I loveddddddd Will & Jem. These two make your heart race, without even trying. They balance one another off and they are truly wonderful & amazing friends. I can't wait to find out, what Will's secret is and who winds up with Tessa. I'd probably pick Will, but that's probably, because he reminds me of Jace ;-) I enjoyed Tessa & Jessamine as well. Loved the bickering between these two. I'm hoping they'll become great friends. Charlotte & Henry are just adorable and I was so excited to see Magnus in this book!! Can't wait for Clockwork Prince....

This book is a well-tended garden, with a full-season's harvest of the most luscious moments. Moments of perfectly ripened thrill, with two distinct varieties: swashbuckling adventure & breath-taking discovery. From the wind-surfing William of Orange, to Newton's eccentric, mind-bending experiments, to remants of unknown sea monster's skeletons found deep in mountain caves, it is a reminder that the quantum twists & staggering black holes of today were no more harrowing to encounter than the findings in our past. My only question is when will I find the time to finish off the series?

This book is a fictional, coming-of-age tale that revolves around the real 1906 death of Grace Brown that took place in rural New York state. (See An American Tragedy and its 1951 film adaptation A Place in the Sun starring Elizabeth Taylor). Sixteen-year-old Mattie Gokey and her family are left nearly destitute by her mother's death and her father's inability to care for the younger children and run the family farm by himself. Mattie is at a personal crossroads when, at a hotel where she works, a young woman named Grace Brown gives her a bundle of letters with instructions to burn them. Grace's body is soon dredged from the nearby lake. This book is more about Mattie and how she finds her voice as a young woman at the turn-of-the-twentieth-century, rather than finding out who, or what, caused the death of Grace Brown. Mattie deals with racism, sexism, poverty and the choice between staying in her rural community and becoming a wife or going to college to study literature. Mattie's friend Minnie (who is also in her teens) serves as the example of teen aged marriage and motherhood to Mattie. Her experiences with Minnie serve to lift the veil of romanticism that often covers marriage and motherhood, and shows Mattie the harsh reality of having to deal with them both, while still a teenager. (Mattie feels that her beloved books have betrayed her on this subject and calls the authors "liars".) Mattie deals with many situations that today's teens will most likely not encounter; situations that would cause a 16 yr. old to mature significantly, however it is refreshing and realistic to read that Mattie still shows immaturity and inexperience in many ways. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and I do recommend it. However, this book says it's for young adults, "8th grade and up", but I'm not so sure that I would recommend someone that young read it on their own. If someone that young did wish to read it, I would suggest that an adult read this book beforehand, and help to explain the motivations of the characters and the situations they find themselves in.

Didn't like it the first time through in the early 80's. Read it again, and see why I struggled. It's not a quick or easy read, but had some good and thought-provoking parts. I've picked up the 5th book now and will begin it soon, but frankly, if it drags as much as this one, I'll call it quits. I was so in love with the early ones that I find it hard to give up on these. The whole story probably encompasses a few weeks in time. The only real action happens in the first pages, and from then forward, it's a long series of conversations and personal interactions. Long... My fingers are crossed for an improved book 5...

This is a pretty depressing book but worth the read. Its a downer so proceed with caution.
What an amazingly well written book!!! Loved every page of it!!! Fell in love with the characters and got very invested in the story! Sad it's over!!!
A lovely murder down south is a good book it shows you how a young teenage girl name lovely has been through so much in her young life from the altercations with majority of mother friends to the one man she loved finding out he has a wife and child to the abuse of him putting his hands on but all through this she has her best friends joy and candace. Joy is not your average typical teenage girl her life turned upside down after her brother was killed by drug dealer joy held grudes against evry drug dealer. Candace is your everyday teen she very nice but vendictive on the low but always have her friends back no matter what.
This book should be mandatory reading for high school students and would compliment To Kill a Mockingbird. It addresses the subject of date rape in a meaningful way that doesn't fall into after-school-special mode. We could change our world dramatically if we weren't so afraid to talk with one another and especially to young people about power, race, gender, and sex.

Violent, irreverent, dry, and utterly brilliant. You'll laugh until you cry, then share it with someone who won't get it at all. Just like that boxed set of "Rex the Runt" DVDs I bought. Sigh.
No me importó demasiado esto - me sentí muy decepcionada al final.(feminine)
