I've been dithering about reading 'The Omnivore's Dilemma' and picked this up instead. It turned out to be an entertaining read, and informative without proselytizing. My biggest gripe is that I felt the author idealized the experience of living off local and homegrown produce - read 'The Sixty-Four Dollar Tomato' for an alternative and very funny take on growing your own food - but it did make me want to run off to the country and start growing beets.
Taken from http://nikorachan.blogspot.com This story was different, with a cult theme it seems to evoke various sensations. One more than others, creepy. You don't really know what's going to happen next, and when it does, it wasn't what you were expecting. You think it's going to go the usual YA way, it doesn't though. We get introduced to Tania, a girl who is seemingly in love, along with her friends, all having a partner. A party is the event where the book really starts, you would think the three girls, including Tania, would go there with their boyfriends, but somehow they go alone because of various happenings, which wasn't the plan. There, Tania experiences things she isn't sure are possible, things that only drugs could create. Her and her friends, after meeting three rather gorgeous and strange guys, get swept away into a dark world which is beyond what they know. There is more to Tania than meets the eye and she quickly catches on to what she thinks is going on at the Black Lodge, the rock singers house, where the party took place. But it's more intense than she could imagine. To save her friends and her love life, she has to realise who she is and learn to resist temptation. At first it might seem a bit slow, i wondered why Tania would keep putting herself into the situations, it's obvious something's going on, and although she wants to save her friends, she walks so easily into these situations. However, as the twists and turns reveal themselves and Tania learns she is the only one to stop this, you will want to keep reading.

As many people compare this book to Harry Potter book. I think they are in two different leagues. Yes they are both children's fantasy, but that's where the tales end. This is a more serious book, with very little to no humor, but it is definitely a well written (maybe better written) book and was definitely a page-turner for those who like children's adventure with a touch of fantasy.

This is a story about a 12 year old girl named Anita. Along with living a difficult a young life filled with problems regular teens have to be free and there own person, she has to go through unimaginable things. She is living in the Dominican Republic where most of her family members have already emigrated to the United States. Her family in which has stayed, faces various difficulties such as her uncle disappearing (Tio Toni), as well as having her family terrorized by Mr. Smith and the secret police, for being suspected to be again the country's dictator. This book was real cool because it brings light into what other country have to go through, and more specifically what children face, in being in such oppressive country's, sheding light to all the readers who happen to come across this book.

This book was amazing! Truly inspired me to be a Hurt Healer. So many hurting people around me everyday who need to know and understand the amazing Grace and Love of Jesus!
The reason we navigated the Great Barrier Reef for story time was to have an excuse to use this book. It is VERY FUN to share with pre-schoolers and concludes with a delightful surprise ending.
