Man even if this isn't my favorite harry potter book, they're all so good. Plus: hooray for Ginny Weasley!

I liked this book a lot. Having read The Da Vinci Code and thought it junk, I was wary of this book. However, it is very well researched, based on truth rather than fiction (a la Da Vinci), and I loved what it had to say, and the characters, esepcially John Beckett. I highly recommend it.
A great big book about baseball, trash and the Cold War. Underworld has an interesting structure, going backwards for the most part. The 60 page prologue is the best part of the book, brilliant prose about the Giants' triumph over the Dodgers at home at the Polo Grounds on the last day of the 1951 penant race, Bobby Thomson's Shot Heard Round the World, linking Cotter Martin, a young black boy from Harlem who jumps the gate and nabs the home run, J. Edgar Hoover, who hears about a Russian atomic test while at the game with his pals Frank Sinatra and Jackie Gleason, the players, the announcer... Then DeLillo takes us 41 years into the future, where the man who now owns the ball meets up with a woman he had a short affair with in '51. He works in waste management. She has turned America's military planes into an art installation. Successive sections bring us back to the dawn of the Cold War. The fictional characters are interspersed with celebrities and real events - DeLillo follows Lenny Bruce at his shows during the Cuban Missile Crisis as the purest expression of America's psyche, his characters go from waste and government work in the desert southwest back to their early years in the Bronx. The best word to describe the book is panoramic. Characters retain mystery, dialogue is realistic and good. Lots of themes here.

This book is a close-up look at a west coast Canadian native family - the struggles they go through with hopes and dreams and the intricacies of their family/culture and ancestory. I liked how it shifted from present day to Lisa's past and came full-circle in the end. Great read.

Well, GUH. Very, very hot! That said, this book is so much more than just hot m/m action. It's a journey through addiction, desire, and love, and the author handles these issues spectacularly. SPOILER I would have liked to see a return to Logan's blood addiction. While the story started out with it, Kasper's addiction took over and the story never really resolved Logan's past or current therapy, unless the author meant for Dr. Kerill's therapy to work for Logan in the background. He certainly did resist blood in the end of the book. It's a very minor detail though. The stumbles and successes of the characters felt so real and believable to me. The author didn't make the characters' desires just a "I'm different and therefore special, so there!" theme. The story is much more raw and honest and, of course, shows the consequences of over-the-top limits. I really liked this book and I would recommend it to anyone who's ever felt like an outsider for their desires. And to everyone else, of course.

This is my friend's book, but that isn't why I stayed up until 4 am to finish it. Sometimes an author's raw emotions bleed onto the page to give us a story that is so much more than just a story. That is definitely the case here. The pain of grief is so real it made me cry. It's beautiful and sad and real and after I finished Andria's story I couldn't get her out of my head for days.
