Rules of Attraction is the second book of of the Perfect Chemistry series by Simone Elkeles. The first book (Perfect Chemistry), is about Alex, the oldest of three brothers, and how he struggles with the difficulties of life that he was born to live with. This second book is about his younger brother, Carlos, dealing with quite the same stuff but in a different situation and environment. I LOVED and devoured this book as much as the first. But I can't really say that it's better than Perfect Chemistry, I mean nothing really beats the original story. It's a really nice, feel good book, that I think had more emotion, delving into the characters' inner feelings more than it did in the first book. But I had some issues with it being similar with the first book in some parts of the story, having the same circumstances as belonging to a gang, being stuck with the girl he wouldn't dream of liking--and then liking her in the end, and more that I'm now too lazy to type. But the message of the book is clear and it's one of the things I like most about it (including those sweet moments that at times may be called 'cheesy'. But hey, aren't we all suckers for those moments?), it's that no matter how impossible it may seem, no matter how bad the situation is, it is still within your reach to make a difference. That even though the status quo is carved deep in rock, you should never just give up and accept your place in it. The third and last book, Chain Reaction, will be released this year. I'm really excited with the release of this one because it's about the youngest brother, and he's nothing like Alex or Carlos which will be a nice breath of fresh air

The second in the Lenox series, I found myself enjoying the mystery of this one better than the first (A Beautiful Blue Death). This story involved a number of strange clues, the disappearance of two young men, and a couple of "mistaken" identities; the various threads - deaths twenty years apart - come together in the end in a very satisfying conclusion. My only quibble is the semi-subplot involving Lenox and his decision to ask his best friend and neighbor, Lady Jane, to marry him. While I have no problem with the decision, it seemed that Lenox was a bit too obsessed with it, and it felt a touch out of character for him. Beyond that minor transgression, the book was solid.

I am on page 109 now. I am seeing everything WD is talking about experientially at work. The lessons have been hard. . .that is. . .getting the test first and then the explanation of the principles after the fact by reading more pages of this book second. But, the learning is quite effective and very impacting this way. Memorable. Combining the heart energy with the act of therapeutic massage has a huge imprint on me; positive intention in my hands and movements really does help my clients to relax and heal.

this book has one of the loveliest final pages of any i've ever read. it will knock the wind out of you if you've read the rest of the book, and maybe even if you haven't.
While I can't claim to have read all of it, Leaves of Grass is great. Whitman's prose works are also quite good, particularly "Democratic Vistas."
