** spoiler alert ** I loved this book. Aza was the main character and everyone else and herself thought she was ugly.I really liked how prince Ijori didn't seem to care if Aza was "ugly", he still kissed her. I loved how Aza went from being a girl that wasn't so confident of herself to being more confident of herself.

wow, this was a ridiculous ride. there are also some really beautiful passages in this book that i wish i had lifted before closing the book on the last page, because i'm daunted by the size of the thing to go back and find the ones that i vaguely remember. someday, i will.

A well-told story about a turn of the century English explorer who spent his life looking for a "hidden" city in the Amazon jungle. As seems to happen a lot with historical non-fiction, there is not much story resolution (real life gets in the way of a good story so often), particularly since Fawcett eventually disappeared into the jungle and was never found. This leads to the author himself going to the Amazon and trying to tie things together, which didn't exactly work for me. Nevertheless, a very solid read.
