REading this for a book club and I know I won't finish it. Do not particularly care for the author's style and woe is me Bette Davis attitude.

The Pigeon series is great - the art is simple yet engaging, and Pigeon is a great character. He talks directly to the reader and is wheedling, clever little bird. But he doesn't get away with it, oh no.

Dageus, Dageus, Dageus... Damn this was so so Hot... Poor tormented Dageus who is sexy as sin... I loved when he calls her Cloelass... This had some wonderful twists as well...

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this book. To say it elucidated many feelings of my own far more eloquently than I would ever be able to doesn't seem like enough. To say it was the best book I ever read - fiction, nonfiction, essay or textbook - doesn't seem like enough. To say I wish I were Anne Fadiman certainly doesn't say enough and to say that I love it only comes marginally close. All I can say is that I am unendingly grateful I stumbled across it on my mother's "to read" bookshelf one bored summer day and I recommend it most hardily to anyone and everyone who loves books.

I hate to do it, but I'm having to abandon this book. It came so highly recommended, but every chance I get I put it down and start another book. There are too many books in this life which I'll never have the chance to read, so I'm done wasting time on this one.

really great book. I felt like leaving it at the beginning, it was pretty boring. But I knew it had potential...so I kept with it. It was really good. I liked the message. Must read it!
This book was fantastic! If you are interested in other cultures and what people go through for the cause of freedom this book is for you. The young man who wrote the story went through a horrific journey, yet never lost his faith. He has settled in the States, and has made a life for himself. It is a very inspirational story.

A solid entertaining book. I really enjoyed it... Kind of a perfect, fun comfort read. Sometimes a little heavy-handed, and probably not the best writing around, but nonetheless, solid.
The art of letter writing....almost history. Whilst reading this I realised that in years to come I will not be able to recall those romantic texts or emails from my loved one, that get deleted at the press of a button. Kristina McMorris came up with the idea for this novel after sharing the love letters written by her grandparents during World War II. Chance meetings can reshape lives as told in this dramatic novel as it follows three room mates and their lives during World War II. Liz is betrothed to Dalton, her childhood sweetheart and her future seems to be all mapped out for her. Julia's boyfriend, Christian is in the Navy. She is close to his parents and his brother, Ian, and visits them whilst Christian is away at sea. Betty, happy go lucky, is about to go off to war to do her duty in the field hospitals. Before she goes she asks Liz to do her a little favour by writing a letter to the GI she danced with and gave her photo to on the night he left for Europe. Betty is not good at letter writing, and what harm can it do as he will never know Liz wrote the letter? The characters were exciting and lovable, the drama was fast paced and emotions ran high. Great observations of human emotion and how people react in troubled times to love and loss. Choices were made that maybe would have been different if it was not for fate bringing them together in wartime. This novel is full of romance, passion and is emotionally charged. I had trouble reading the last chapters through the tears. 5 out of 5 for me! Great summer read. Looking forward to seeing Kristina's next novel. Thank you to Avon for sending me a copy for review. This did not influence my review in any way

Not worth the time... The main character is mean and selfish. As she grows and changes throughout the book, her mood improves, so she isn't as mean. But she's never very likable or respectable. Some of the other characters are a little more realistic. Although I think Sarah Dessen was probably trying to convey a hope in love, I found the story utterly hopeless. Perhaps it portrays people who have lost love, but she doesn't depict the emotions involved in love- or loss. It makes love seem like a cure for life and even one's own self. It makes marriage appear to need only love. And when love ends, marriage ends. No one in the book even seems bothered by the impermanence of marriage in their lives. Plus, the language leaves a lot to be desired. I can stand some cursing, but on nearly every page the characters say "God" and various forms of the word. That's more than I need to read. Plus, the high school graduates drink and have sex liberally. So Remy is trying to be "good" and only have sex with some guys, but I didn't buy the "good girl" image she was trying to become. A good girl is selfless. Remy is selfish.
