I wanted to give this 5 stars, but I just didn't like the illustrations-- and this one was a Caldecott honor book! What were those wheels under the woman's and the dog's feet? Why was the woman always wearing a crown, and sometimes the dog too? Nevertheless, the text by Sidman was absolutely beautiful, describing the colors during the different seasons. It reminded me of Mary O'Neill's Hailstones and Halibut Bones. In fact, the two would pair nicely. Recommended, despite the peculiar illustrations.
A clever debut about a chimp evolving into something perhaps more human than those around him. Once innocence is lost there is no going back.
hilarious!

I really don't like teen books where the main characters end up having sex. There were some good discussions about pros and cons, and talk about safety and health issues, which were very good. I had high hopes. Unfortuneatly, not my choice for the right outcome.

A better dramatist and a bit boring as a short novelist. I understand some of these stories are considered perfect. Don't get it.

It's no joke that Power Girl is one of the most confusing superhero stories out there. This novel was cool in that it had some of the older comics that attempted to explain her origins (1970's and 80's). The new update just made things more confusing. The overall story was good, a self-realization story on steroids. We learn why Power Girl has a big hole in her costume, and it's not because she's "lewd", but because she just doesn't know who she is and doesn't know what symbol to go with.
Loved this. Doyle's characters are so wonderful: funny and tragic at once.
Oh this is a must read and one to buy and always keep on your shelf!

Sadly this is a book I can truly say I was thankful to finish. I enjoyed several parts of this book but for me it could have been condensed to about 25 pages. I had trouble chronologically placing events in order. Also I felt that the book was purely about 3 things, rap and it's NYC origins, hustling as his story to tell through his art, and the other artists that inspired him. I would have enjoyed reading more insight into his business success and failure, personal relationships, etc. This would not be a book I would recommend to anyone except a diehard rap or jay-z fan. I found fascinating: the Cristal story, the clothing line start up, bootlegging, and the story of filming of big pimping. Enjoyed "decoding" the first few songs, but definitely lost the fun of the exercise after a while.
