Coleman Silk, a college professor who has been passing most of his life keeps his secret to his death, a murder at the hands of his lover’s ex, even though he is accused of racism and forced to resign. Roth writes a collection of long, powerful rants filled with significance and beautiful imagery, all while keeping perfect pace.

Mitchell Hundred is a superhero ("The Great Machine" - he talks to machines) who unmasked himself and beat Mike Bloomberg to become mayor of NYC. The comic looks at Hundred's life as mayor and the problems he has to solve without using his super powers. It's wonderfully realistic. In this book, the first, Hundred has to deal with a display of publicly funded "art" at the museum in Brooklyn - a painting of Abraham Lincoln with the word "nigger" written over it really big. He can't force the museum to take it down because that would be censorship. But he can't keep it up because it's too offensive to too many people and there might be riots. So he figures out a creative way to address the problem. Meanwhile, someone is killing snow plow drivers in the city, and Hundred has to find the killer. His police commissioner wants him to stay in his office so he doesn't get killed, but he doesn't listen. And the villain is easily found. The book wraps up almost a little too easily. There's no real suspense at the end, and no real reason to keep reading the next volumes. But I will anyway because it's a fascinating concept.
Very good short read filled with lots of action, a sassy heroine and a strong alpha hero! To get the full copy go to Allromanceebooks.com.

Pretty cool sequel to the Vampire Lestat, but not terribly memorable.

I'm a sucker for love stories, and when set in Paris, it just gets better. But this is more than a love story: it's also a story of war (WWI), growing old, and coming to terms with death. The story is told in three time settings: the French battlegrounds during WWI, Paris 10 years later, and then a nursing home some 60 plus years hence when Patrick, dying of stomach cancer, contemplates his life and his long lost love. A tearjerker.
(4.5 stars) OMG! this series is seriously insane, in a good way... I just don't know what to say, and the ending!! bloody hell, I'm hoping what I'm thinking isn't true!!
The Twilight series, while a favorite with many teens and adults, was not one of mine. There are too many rookie mistakes in it and the characters are not ones that I admired or really even cared about. The same cannot be said of Stephanie Meyer's first non-Twilight book, The Host. Many of the same issues regarding relationships and love are dealt with in this book, but the characters are so much more realistic. Meyers shows in this book that her success isn't a fluke. She can do more than vampires that sparkle, whiny teenage girls and werewolves with muscles. There is only one part of the book that I hated...really hated. And that's when the main character is being beaten up by her "boyfriend" because he doesn't believe that she's who she says she is. He just sees her as an alien who's taken over his girlfriend's body. This part bothered me on a lot of levels. I wouldn't have forgiven him or forgotten the incident.

I'm a huge fan of John Green, and this is one of the best of his I've ever read. It deals with much heavier issues than many of his other books, it seems; and it deals with them with power and sensitivity. Looking for Alaska is also a lot more "literary" than his other books...many of the main themes and ideas were connected in powerful ways. Overall, the best John Green I've read so far. (Warning: There was a bit more teen sex in it than was necessary, but it wasn't so much that I was too distracted.)
Actually I have never read this book. I did however read the "Ninja Gaiden Tell Your Own Adventure" back in seventh grade when the rest of the class was reading some crap like "To kill a Mocking Bird". Since I couldn't find the latter on this site, I submitted the next bast thing. Anyways, if you can find the book, I highly recommend it because it is truly a lost American literary classic...about a ninja.
