Any mental health issue will be hard to tackle as a subject in a story. It was handled very well here, but the overall effect on me was disappointment. I felt there was a lack of focus.

I have talked about not giving fives so easy, but this is a desert island book. This book is THE bridge between old and new.

I've tried to read Hemmingway before without much success. This attempt was no different. The story's okay, but I don't get the point. I didn't identify with the main character or what he was going through.

A coming of age story placed in the milieu of relentless horror. No, it's not just about high school. A great look at what it is to grow up and the demons we face at home in our minds, and even down, down deep in the sewer.

I re-read this at 27, and it was even better than it was at 15. I love Atticus Finch so much it makes me want to cry.

The situation seems impossible but not hopeless - this is the great power of Tolkien's writing.

Move over Dan Brown. This book ran rings around the DaVinci Code. A deeper, more thorough view of the 'bloodline' of Mary Magdalene and Jesus. The discoveries (or theories) laid out in this book (told in a work of fiction) may shake the faith of some. But for those of us who have often wondered it is an eye opener. It is the first of a triology and a must read for anyone who enjoyed the DaVinci Code.

This story is incredibly well-written for what one might assume is simply a different version of an old fable. The tale contains action, adventure, tragedy, love, and the pursuit of vengeance. The narration is split between reflective chapters recounting past actions and present-tense chapters that share the current goings-on, the action that advances the story. These chapters create a really excellent parallel between the past conflicts between Max and Peter and the future conflict between them that the story is leading up to. This conflict is the point of eventual resolution, for good or bad, that the entire tale is aimed at. Altogether Willingham has written a fable with depth, emotion, and intensity. It is action driven, but does not stint on the character development. Having read much of the Fables graphic novel series, I am duly impressed with how solid a "regular" novel Willingham has produced.
