** spoiler alert ** Christopher Moore admits that he has been accused of awkward prose, and I am one in a long line of finger pointers. There is no mistaking his singular diction, a style I liken to tripping over pebbles. The errors are not huge, but the verbage a little ungainly. In Moore's new book Fool, his bubbly delivery is entertaining. This re-telling of King Lear is not a new adaptation of Shakespeare's masterpiece, and Moore does not advise a comparison. In this parody of Shakespeare's King Lear, the Black Fool, named Pocket for his small stature, presents himself as author and actor - a sarcastic, horny, but all around noble and loyal jester to King Lear. King Lear is dying, and his failing health turns his thoughts to mortality, and in haste, he gives away his kingdom to two selfish daughters who, one fateful night, profess their love and devotion in boisterous display. When his third and youngest daughter fails to do the same, she is banished. Thus sets the stage for a dark tale told in a light-hearted way. Moore has taken the framework of King Lear and used it to determine how much mid-century shagging can be done during a five act show against the backdrop of bloody tragedy, love, deceit, forgery, war, bad marriages and regrettable children. Moore is unstoppable when it comes to comedic and bizarre twists throughout his narratives and Fool is no exception. Fool takes ultimate delight and pride in the sarcastic humiliation of its players. Finally, Moore leaves no ties undone and no hearts broken; you either die or live happily ever after. Overall, Fool is another fun book in Moores repertoire.

Baseball! It's absurd, it's ridiculous, it's like Bull Durham without actually having to look at Susan Sarandon!

Enjoyed this book. Although I have a problem with Christian Fiction which makes everyone who isn't "Born Again" the wicked evil person. There are many people who are good people even without a declaration of faith.
One of my favorite books ever. Mind you, it's preachy and political and long, so if you have issues with any of those, it's probably not your kind of book. But if you can compartmentalize and enjoy the reading and entertainment value, it's a great sci-fi/fantasy/historical fiction yarn. It is, for better and worse, "epic." Just keep an eye out for the 50-page manifesto toward the end and skip ahead.
IF u get into it, u gotta love it
This is a great book for anyone that is interested in the more technical, but not too technical niche of web design. Aaron does a great job of walking the reader through the technical implementations of an adaptive web design and progressive enhancement. It is short so worth taking a read through then using as a reference for future project work. Great job Aaron!
Beyond excellent! Read this entire book on a flight from Venice to NY...could not put it down.
a somewhat specious treatment of how the english words we use shape the history we assent to. it was groundbreaking when it was written, and although it is now pretty outdated, it's a quick and absorbing read. it also suggests that christianity was created in alexandria around the "birth of christ" by the fusion of jewish, egyptian, and greek philosophies... you know, if the author weren't such a good anglican, he'd have his suspicions.
Cute, but predictable.

After finishing McCarthy's No Country For Old Men and The Road, I felt like I was stunned for a day or so afterward. Add Blood Meridian to that list. At first, I thought this was going to be a Lonesome Dove-style western, but it's something far different. The descent into butchery by the Glanton gang in the desert is one of the most disturbing things I've read. And the Judge is now on my top 10 all-time fictional villian list.
