This book is satiracal about so many 18th cent. issues including women's education, christianity, and british foriegn policy. It is a hard book to follow with a bunch of characters that are only in the book briefly. It is very funny and the country mouse in the city effect is very well done. Hamilton took this character and really breathed life into him. The only draw back would be the number of characters that appear briefly for very little effect throughout the novel.

Good read, disappointing ending.

Great concept, great execution! IPCA was a totally believable agency, and so were all the chracters within the novel.

I don't read a lot of fantasy, but this series engrosses me, largely because I'm a sucker for a snarky con-artist tale regardless of context. While the childhood memory portion of the story is necessary to set up Locke and Sabetha's relationship, I would have liked to seen the book more heavily weighted towards current events. Parts of the denouement are predictable, but Lynch leaves plenty open for further adventures for the Gentlemen Bastards.

One of the most completely thought through books I've read in many years. Multiple plot lines that can be dissected on so many different levels. In my top 10 books for life.
check page 112 and 113.

I recently decided to reread this book and found myself appreciating Jim Bouton's point of view, discretion (yes, discretion) and sense of humor more than I did his pitching when he was a Yankee phenomenon. Well worth a read, and a great memorial to the Seattle Pilots.

The second volume in the Civil War series published by Time-Life Books in the 1980s, this book takes the readers from the aftermath of Fort Sumter through the messy first large-scale battle of the war at Bull Run. It provides a great amount of detail about the battle, and the pictures, drawings, writings and maps from the period add great realism to the history.

Is this meant to be science-fiction? Or is it a tongue-in-cheek spoof of every aspect of life the author could toss in? The fact that I still don't know after finishing it tells me that whatever the author meant it to be, it missed completely with me. Reincarnation over centuries until you get life right - I'm OK with that. A man having to be reincarnated as a woman so 'he' can experience rape from her perspective - I'm fine with that. Because fetuses 'created' in a lab become bodies without souls (huh?) it's all right to use them for body-swapping - NOT OK with that. This gets 2* because the drawing of lives seen in regression were really good - and who can hate having some good music with your book?

Unique plot, which pushed the extra star; he could have gone more in-depth with each character, but I think he was forced to have a short novella-type book. I will read at least 1 or 2 more of his books (I also read Serial, which featured another genius plot).
