I started this book yesterday afternoon and finished it in about a day. Written by two very capable journalists from The New York Times, this book meticulously recounts the 102 minutes from the moment the first plane hit World Trade I to the moment the last tower fell. The narrative - drawn from firsthand accounts as well as interviews with the loved ones of victims who called in their last hour or minutes - is honest and heartbreaking. This was a difficult book to read, especially knowing how it would inevitably end. At moments I seemed to forget it was non-fiction, wishing the protagonists had the foresight to see what was coming. Sometimes they were triumphant in their struggles, but more often they succumbed to the tragedy of their circumstances. Their final moments, as well as countless tales of small acts of heroism, are painstakingly detailed by the authors. The authors also spent a good deal of pages pointing out that blame did not rest on any sole group. Whether it was structural flaws, poor planning, insufficient technology or delayed communication, the roots of 9/11 are multidimensional. Instead of pointing fingers, sometimes it's best to celebrate heroes and small, kind acts of strangers who proved humanity was still alive and well in the most desperate of times.

I wasn't too sure when I started reading this book if I would enjoy it or not, but I ended up loving the crazy misfit witch Tammy Jo and her crazy antics that always seem to get her into trouble. I cannot wait for more books by this author.
I read this book on the recommendation of a good friend who is perhaps even a more voracious reader than I am (and she has two kids to look after!) If you've seen and liked the movie Simon Birch, or even if you didn't like the movie, it was but a dull shadow of this book that it was based on. This book has many more layers of meaning and is much more funny, touching, poignant, etc... John Irving is an amazing author. If you haven't been introduced to him yet, I think you should read A Prayer for Owen Meany or even The Cider House Rules immediately.
Great diagrams! Anyone who knows basic stitches can use this book.

The writing may not be the most eloquent, but I haven't been sucked into a story where I felt like I was living and breathing it in a while. I stopped reading one day and had to re-orient myself to real life. So, I'd say the story is good and it can draw you in: maybe a little childish, and maybe a lot predictable, but good

I just started this one today. It's about a boy with Asberger's syndrome who decides to solve the murder of his neighbor's dog. It's funny and sweet. He likes prime numbers so instead of the chapters being 1, 2, 3, they are 1, 3, 5, 7 etc.

Very quick and easy read. Fun. Between all of the main characters, there is someone or portions from each that anyone can relate to. Makes you want to hang with friends.
