it made me think of all the people (muyself included) who buidl their lives hidding things both big and small from those who think they know them - not too worry none of my direty little secrets are as big as this one. But somehow, you do get second chances - or at least some people do. A really moving book.

This book was better than the last one.It kinda got weird with the story Disenchantment, one clue-Praying Mantis :) Then I got to the story Expecting. This one was just completely weird and ridiculous. The next story-Flowers for Angela just got plain creepy and disturbing..But the next 2 stories were actually good ones. I

The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant tells the story of a young woman in Florence in the late 1400s. She is well-educated and an artist which is unusual for women in that time. Her desire is to be alone to study and draw but societal conventions and her family’s position determine that her fate be either marriage or the convent. When Florence is threatened by the French army, she is forced to make a quick decision on her future. With the invasion looming, the city’s clergy is preaching that the sinfulness and profligacy of the people have brought them to this terrible moment in their history. The citizens are in fear of the conflict and their possible damnation in the afterlife. The sermons are full of ranting against the bad influence of art, secular learning and pleasure. This topic is timely so it added extra zing to this intriguing novel that I have recommended to many people.

I loved this book. Historical romance/fiction. Try it, you'll never look at the 1700s in the same way again!

better than all the books
The Hunger Games series started off with a very intriguing version of a dystopian society, and I loved the first book. It was action packed and exciting and I was completely unable to put it down. However, with each following book, I began to grow disappointed with the storyline. I started the second book with the enthusiasm of believing it would live up to the first, but in my eyes it fell short. At the end of the second book, I basically had to make myself pick up the third book, just for the sake of getting the series over with. I was very disappointed with the quality of the writing and dwindling character development & storylines. Reading Mockingjay was painful, and I was only kept going by the need to have it be over with. As an end to what started out as a great series, it was quite disappointing as the 'The Hunger Games' Saga ending.

A page turner that I couldn't put down, nor was I able to anticipate the ending. Coban's characters are so "real" and conversations flowed as though he transcribed a taped recording of people conversing. The mystery unfolded in pieces that didn't relate, but they did.

This book was quite good, but I didn't find it as entertaining or informative as Richard Dawkins's "The God Delusion." They're both very much worth reading, and very different. Sam Harris's book is more grim, and has a much darker sense of humor.
